One of my viewers (Lee) sent me some pictures of their Cybergun Sig Sauer X-Five BB gun that he stripped down to the bare metal. His had some of the paint flake off so he decided to take it down to bare metal. It looks pretty good and he says with some of his "secret" metal oil on it, it stays rust free.

Here are some picts of it:

UMAREX WALTHER CP99 COMPACT BB GUN REVIEW

Type: BB air pistol.

Manufacturer:Umarex.

Model:CP99 Compact.

Materials: Metal slide, composite frame.

Weight: 1.6 pounds.

Barrel: 3.5 inches, non-rifled.

Propulsion: CO2 x 1.

Action: Semi auto, blowback, single action only.

Ammunition Type: Steel BBs 4.5mm.

Ammunition Capacity: 18 rounds.

FPS: 345.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex CP99 Compact is amazing, it is short and light making it one of the best action shooters I own. You can fire this gun accurately and fast all day long.

Accuracy: Good, I find the sights on the CP99 Compact set up to work really well with my shooting style. I don't have to make any adjustments and I'm able to get tight groups even when shooting fairly quickly.

Build Quality: Excellent, this BB gun is made in Japan and it shows, I have owned it for close to 5 years now and it still shoots just as good as the day I bought it. It's well made, well finished and feels great in the hand.

Realism: This Replica BB gun has many of the same characteristics of the actual 9mm P99 Compact with the exception of having a longer handle and much different safety mechanism. My particular version did not have a cut out ejection port either but I believe the newer models do have cut out ejection ports adding to the realism of this replica CP99 Compact BB gun.

Available at: the Replica Airguns Store.

Pros:

  • Decent reproduction of the original Walther P99 Compact 9mm.

  • Would make an excellent training gun as it has a similar size, weight, and feel to the actual Walther P99 Compact 9mm handgun.

  • Blowback action is very firm adding to the realism of shooting this weapon.

  • Decent FPS and CO2 efficiency for a blowback BB air gun.

  • Amazing trigger pull making it a blast to shoot.

  • Picatinny rail for accessories like a laser sight and/or tactical light.

Cons:

  • Ejection port on older models is not cut out but rather molded into the slide.

  • Safety lever seems out of place and takes away from the realism of this replica.

Comments:

This fine Blowback BB gun was the airgun that got me back to being interested in Replica Airguns. I've put thousands of rounds through this BB gun and it hasn't always been treated with the greatest care, but still it has held up very well. The Umarex Walther CP99 Compact a really fun gun to shoot and is not only easy on the pocket book to purchase but also to shoot, as it easily gets 100 shots plus per CO2 cartridge.

Umarex Walther CP99 Compact Ejection Port Modification

You may be surprised to know that the Airgun that started off my collection was purchased only about 4 years ago. As a kid I had a few Airguns growing up and then suddenly in my late 30's I just picked it up again. Anyways the Airgun this post is focusing on is the Umarex Walther CP99 Compact. This post is not intended to be a review but in summary the CP99 Compact BB Blowback BB gun has one of the nicest trigger pulls in my collection. It is so much fun to shoot, it's very well made and is reasonably priced.

The one feature,or lack of a feature that I never really like about the Umarex CP99 Compact was the molded ejection port. In other words the ejection port is not cut out of the slide on this gun but instead is molded into the slide to look like an ejection port.

That said I have noticed a few of these Umarex CP99 Compacts sporting a cut out ejection port and so I thought to myself that maybe people have been cutting the ejection port out themselves? Hey I thought about giving it a try several times myself. So I took a walk over to the Umarex US website and low and behold if you click on the 360 view, you will see that it too has a cut out ejection port. The photos on their site do not show this new feature but rather the older molded version. I can not confirm that all new CP99 Compacts will in fact have the cut out ejection port, but it does look like Umarex has moved to this updated version…

So I thought enough is enough! It's time to pull out my tools and cut into my beloved CP99 BB gun. The best way to show you what transpired next is with a series of photos. At the end of about 2 hours of work I have to say I am very happy with the end result!

CYBERGUN GSG 92 BB GUN FIELD TEST

In this Vimeo video I do a Field Test of the Cybergun GSG 92 CO2 BB Gun. I take three sets of five shots on a target at that is twenty five feet away. Each set of five shots are taken from different camera views. The first camera view is in a standard zoomed out view, then I zoom in on the gun with some slow motion shots mixed in, after that I shoot the last 5 shots with the camera on the target. Lastly I shoot a fifteen round burst in full auto mode with an on-target camera view.

The Cybergun GSG 92 shot close to a 2.5 inch group at twenty five feet in the standing position and without any kind of rest. Not too bad for a blowback BB gun!

Baikal (IZH) MP-654K Makarov Replica BB Gun Review

Related Posts:

Type: BB air pistol.

Manufacturer: Baikal.

Model:MP-654K.

Materials: Weapons grade metal slide & frame.

Weight: 1.7 pounds.

Barrel: 3.9 inches, metal-rifled.

Propulsion: CO2 x 1.

Action: Semi auto, double and single action.

Ammunition Type: Steel/Lead BBs 4.5mm.

Ammunition Capacity: 13 rounds.

FPS: 380.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull is good in single action mode (When cocked), when shooting in double action mode it is a bit heavy but it seems like over time the gun is working its self in a bit.

Accuracy: Good, not amazing but pretty good.

Build Quality: Excellent, this gun is made side by side with the original Makarov PMM (9x18) firearm that it is Replica of and uses most of the same parts with some modifications to make the BB version shoot 4.5mm BB's.

Realism: You simply can not get any closer to how close this gun resembles the original Makarov PMM (9x18). You can even field strip this gun exactly like the original. The only acceptation is when it come time to fire the BB gun version, The Baikal MP-654K is not designed to have blowback operation which is understandable as it would be impossible to fabricate this gun form the original and still give it blowback operation.

Purchased From: Private Air Gun collector.

Pros:

  • Amazing reproduction of the original Makarov PMM (9x18).

  • Would make an excellent training gun as it has the exact size, weight, and feel to the actual Makarov PMM (9x18) handgun.

  • Made out of Weapons Grade Metal.

  • If you can get your hands on one, it is sure to hold or even increase in value.

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

Cons:

  • No Blowback action due to it being modified from the real gun rather than made for purpose from scratch.

  • Almost impossible to find in North America!

  • Could be a Pro or a Con but the slide spring is crazy heavy, which makes it hard to work the slide and field strip the gun.

Comments:

The Baikal MP-654K BB Air pistol is a treasure to own, it is unique in that it is derived from the actual Makarov side by side in the original factory in Russia. Most Air guns are designed from scratch and therefore usually only look like the guns they replicate but internally they are usually nothing alike. The Baikal MP-654K BB Gun is the real Makarov with a few changes to allow it to shoot BB's propelled by CO2. If you're a replica Airgun collector and you ever have the chance to pick one up, do it!

CYBERGUN GSG 92 BB GUN Review

Related Posts:

Type: BB air pistol.

Manufacturer: Cybergun.

Model: GSG 92.

Materials: 99% all metal build.

Weight: 2.4 pounds.

Barrel: 4.1 inches, brass, non-rifled.

Propulsion: CO2 x1.

Action: Semi auto (Selectable Full Auto with Mod) blowback, double and single action.

Ammunition Type: Steel BBs 4.5mm.

Ammunition Capacity: 22 rounds

FPS: 330

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull is what you would expect from a real automatic pistol, in single action mode it is very light and short.

Accuracy: Very good, I was surprised!

Build Quality: Excellent, with almost all metal construction, good weight and craftsmanship.

Realism: This is as close as you can come to the look, weight, feel, and action of a Beretta 92FS styled gun, the actual gun it most closely represents is the Taurus Model 92B

Purchase it From: The Replica Airguns Store

Pros:

  • Extremely realistic airgun replica of a Beretta 92FS styled gun.

  • All metal construction.

  • Would make an excellent training gun as it functions just like the real Beretta automatic handgun.

  • Blowback action is very firm adding to the realism of shooting this weapon.

  • Field strips just like a real Beretta 92FS.

  • Can be easily moded to fire in either Semi Auto or Full Auto by moving the safety to the all-the-way down position.

Cons:

  • It goes through CO2 very fast.

  • When the magazine releases, it simply drops out, no spring to it.

  • No adjustable sights.

  • Safety lever and mag release are plastic. (Not a deal breaker).

Comments:

This BB air pistol is styled after many modern blowback airsoft pistols, this means it functions very similarly to the real steel. It is a very hefty gun made almost entirely from metal and has a very snappy blowback action which adds to it's shooting realism. Even the magazine looks and feels like a real 9mm magazine with similar weight and dimensions. The Cybergun GSG 92 shoots very accurately for a BB airgun and has fairly decent power considering it's blowback function, this does result in heavy usage of CO2. I was able to get about 3 magazines out of a CO2 cartridge when in Semi Auto mode. When I shot in Full Auto mode I was lucky to get 2 magazines out of a CO2 cartridge. This is a must have replica airgun for many reasons; price, realism, all metal design, performance and also the fact that it's easily moded to select fire Full Auto.

Umarex HPP CO2 BB AIRGUN - Field Test

Related Posts:

Type: BB air pistol.

Manufacturer: Umarex.

Model: HPP.

Materials: Mostly all metal construction.

Weight: 1.8 pounds.

Barrel: 3.6 inches, steel, non-rifled.

Propulsion: CO2 x1.

Action: Semi auto blowback, double action.

Ammunition Type: Steel BBs 4.5mm.

Ammunition Capacity: 15 rounds

FPS: 410

Trigger Pull: This gun has a medium trigger pull, the first 3/4 of the trigger pull actuates the hammer with a noticeable click when the hammer is all the way back and ready to fire. The last part of the trigger pull is much lighter. With practice you will be able to engage the hammer and then fire the gun in a kind of simulated single action mode.

Accuracy: Medium to good.

Build Quality: In its price range this air gun offers good build quality and value, it feels solid and well built and has a very hefty feel for a compact size gun. I would have liked to have seen the magazine made from metal rather than plastic.

Realism: This gun is loosely styled after a Sig Sauer 226-228. It is lacking a cut-out ejection port that would have added greatly to its realism. The grips are also molded into the handle giveing the gun durability but not authenticity. I would have also liked to see a heftier magazine as it's made out of plastic and feels a bit cheap compared to the rest of the gun. I do like the fact that the barrel tip has a large diameter opening making the gun look more like the larger caliber weapon it is styled after.

Purchased this gun from: The Replica Airguns Store

Pros:

  • Well priced for what you get.

  • Mostly all metal construction (Except for the magazine).

  • The gun feels really good in the hand and shoots well with a very responsive kick.

  • Good powerful and accuracy for a blowback BB gun.

  • Much better trigger pull/feel than the SA177.

  • Has good power to CO2 usage ratio, can get around 100 shots per CO2 cartridge.

  • Picatinny rail for accessories like Laser sights and tactical lights.

Cons:

  • Again with the plastic magazine but it is a con after all!

  • Ejection Port should have been cut out to make the gun look more realistic.

  • I would have like to have seen actual rubber grips rather than the moulded in metal ones.

Comments:

I found this Umarex Blowback BB gun to be a really accurate, responsive and enjoyable gun to shoot. It is very compact yet has nice heft and the blowback action is snappy giving you the feeling of a real automatic weapon. The fact that this gun is so inexpensive and yet delivers great power and CO2 efficiency makes it not only affordable to buy but also shoot on a daily basis.

Propulsion: CO2 x1.

Action: Semi auto blowback, double action.

Ammunition Type: Steel BBs 4.5mm.

Ammunition Capacity: 19 rounds

FPS: 400

Trigger Pull: This gun has a heavy trigger pull, the first 3/4 of the trigger pull actuates the hammer with a noticeable click when the hammer is all the way back and ready to fire. The last part of the trigger pull is much lighter. With practice you will be able to engage the hammer and then fire the gun in a kind of simulated single action mode.

Accuracy: Medium.

Build Quality: In its price range this air gun offers good build quality and value, it feels solid and well built, even the magazine is metal.

Realism: Even though this gun is not an actual licensed copy of a Glock 17C, it does resemble one very closely. There is good detail with a cut-out ejection port, concealed CO2 cartridge, trigger safety, and realistic larger barrel opening, making this Replica Airgun look very close to the genuine Glock.

Purchased this gun from: The Replica Airguns Store

Pros:

  • Well priced for what you get.

  • Metal and Polymer construction like the real Glock.

  • Would make an excellent training gun as it functions and looks much like the real Glock handgun.

  • Good realism: Cut out slide ejection port, large barrel opening, concealed CO2 with flush magazine, safety on trigger.

  • Nice fiber optic sights.

  • Has good power to CO2 usage ratio, can get around 100 shots per CO2 cartridge.

  • Picatinny rail for accessories like Laser sights and tactical lights.

Cons:

  • The trigger pull is a bit heavy making accuracy somewhat hard at first, once you get used to the break point, it gets easier to shoot.

  • The slide spring is very light so the snap back is slow, it's not noticeable when you are shooting the airgun but more so when you release the slide with the slide release.

Comments:

I really like this Umarex air gun mostly because they put a lot of attention into the detail making this Glock Replica Blowback BB Airgun a treat to own and shoot. It's priced right so just about anyone can own one and once you get used to the trigger break point it makes for a decently accurate action plinker.

Cybergun GSG 92 BB Gun Full Auto Modification

This video is not really a review but rather an instructional video on how to modify a Cybergun GSG 92 Blowback BB Airgun to shoot not only in single shot (Semi Auto), but to also have the ability to shoot in Full Auto mode with the flick of the safety to the down position. (Warning - This Mod will most certainly void your warranty!)

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

This Modifications of the Cybergun GSG 92 is a rather simple operation, all that is needed is to remove the slide and take off the right side grip, then remove a small internal piece and file it down slightly on one end. Put everything back together and away you go. Shoot in Semi Auto or Full Auto whenever you like!

I'll be doing a Review and Field Test on it shortly...

Hopefully I'll see another addition to my Airgun weaponry sometime next week... I just finished ordering a Cybergun GSG 92 which is an Airgun Replica of a Taurus 92B which looks much like a Beretta FS92. This will be my 4th Airgun purchase from Air Gun Source, a Canadian online supplier of Air Guns and Air Gun supplies.

My previous purchases from the Air Gun Source where my Cybergun Sig Sauer X-Five, and my Umarex H.P.P and SA177 Air Pistols.

Umarex H.P.P and SA177 Comparison/Review

Related Posts:

I received both of these Umarex blowback BB guns (Umarex H.P.P and the Umarex SA177) about a month ago and so far I have very little to complain about either of them!

Some of the specs:

  • Both of them are CO2 powered

  • Both of them shoot 4.5mm BB's

  • Both of them have blowback action

  • Both of them shoot around 400 FPS

  • The H.P.P  is styled after the Sig Sauer 266

  • The H.P.P is mostly all metal construction

  • The H.P.P has a 15 round magazine

  • The SA177 is styled after the Glock

  • The SA177 has a metal slide and composite frame

  • The SA177 has a 19 round magazine

  • The SA177 has fiber optic sights

Here is a quick summary of these airguns…

Both of these Umarex airguns are great value for the money and both shoot pretty hard and accurate for blowback styled BB guns. Both have long trigger pulls with the SA177 being a bit on the heavy side. Neither one has a very heavy blowback feel but there is enough blowback to make them responsive and fun to shoot.

The construction on both of these BB airguns is overall very good with the SA177 being more realistic in comparison to the H.P.P. The H.P.P tends to be a more comfortable gun to shoot because of its weighty feel in the hand and lighter trigger pull.

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

I highly recommend both of these air guns. If you're looking for realism then get the SA177, and if you want the better shooter of the two, get the H.P.P.

I will be doing a more thorough shooting review with videos for each one of these Umarex blowback CO2 BB guns in the near future so stay tuned!

Cybergun Sig Sauer X-Five P226 CO2 BB Airgun Review

Type: BB air pistol.

Manufacturer: Cybergun.

Model:Sig Sauer X-Five P226.

Materials: 99% all metal build.

Weight: 2.6 pounds.

Barrel: 4.4 inches, brass, non-rifled.

Propulsion: CO2 x1.

Action: Semi auto blowback, double and single action.

Ammunition Type: Steel BBs 4.5mm.

Ammunition Capacity: 18 rounds

FPS: 330

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull is what you would expect from a real automatic pistol, in single action mode it is light and short.

Accuracy: Very good.

Build Quality: Excellent, with almost all metal construction, good weight and craftsmanship.

Realism: This is as close as you can come to the look, weight, feel, and action of the real Sig Sauer X-Five. P226!

Available From: The Replica Airguns Store

Pros:

  • Extremely realistic airgun replica of the original Sig Sauer X-Five P226.

  • All metal construction.

  • Would make an excellent training gun as it functions just like a real automatic handgun.

  • Blowback action is very firm adding to the realism of shooting this weapon.

  • Field strips just like the real Sig Sauer X-Five P226.

  • Carries Sig Sauer licensed trademarks

Cons:

  • It goes through CO2 very fast.

  • When the magazine releases, it simply drops out, no spring to it.

  • No adjustable sights.

Comments:

This BB air pistol is styled after many modern blowback airsoft pistols, this means it functions very similarly to the real steel. It is a very hefty gun made almost entirely from metal and has a very snappy blowback action which adds to its shooting realism. Even the magazine looks and feels like a real 9mm magazine with similar weight and dimensions. The Cybergun Sig Sauer X-Five shoots very accurately for a BB airgun and has fairly decent power considering it's blowback function, this does result in heavy usage of CO2. I was able to get about 3 magazines out of a CO2 cartridge. This is one of my favorite airguns because it is so true to form and function.:

Umarex MP5K PDW BB Airgun Review

Type: BB air rifle.

Manufacturer: Umarex.

Model:H&K MP5K PDW

Materials: Ppolymer shell, metal inner frame, metal trigger, metal cocking handle, metal but-plate.

Weight: 2.4 pounds.

Barrel: 9.75 inches, metal, non-rifled.

Propulsion: CO2 x1.

Action: Semi auto blowback.

Ammunition Type: Steel BBs 4.5mm.

Ammunition Capacity: 40 rounds

FPS: 400

Trigger Pull: Long and hard (trigger actuates the barrel forward allowing a BB to load and then snapping back to activate the CO2 release).

Accuracy: Medium to good.

Build Quality: Lots of plastic but it does not feel cheap, the internal mechanical parts and frame appear to be made of out of metals.

Realism: Even though there is a lot of plastic this is a 1 to 1 scale replica with full H&K licensing. It is a very accurate replica of the original.

Available From: The Replica Airguns Store

Pros:

  • Being able to own an H&K MP5 for just over $100.

  • High capacity 40 round magazine.

  • Blowback action gives some feedback.

  • Very nice folding stock.

Cons:

  • Does not come with picatinny rail adapter for Red Dot or scope accessory.

  • Blowback does not operate action.

  • Mainly plastic.

  • CO2 hard to get to.

Comments:

The Umarex H&K MP5K PDW 4.5mm BB Replica is a very realistic BB Repeater. It's fun to shoot and seems to have an endless magazine. The Blowback does give it s little bit of recoil when you have a fresh CO2, just don't expect too much.

The outer shell of the gun is mainly made out of plastic but for about $125 you really can't expect an all metal version.

If you're looking for a true Tactical styled BB gun, this would make an excellent choice.

Umarex Steel Storm BB Machine Gun Review

Type: BB machine gun
Manufacturer: Umarex.
Model: Steel Storm.
Materials: Polymer shell, metal inner frame, metal trigger, mainly metal CO2 magazine.
Weight: 2.8 pounds.
Barrel: 7.5 inches, metal, non-rifled.
Propulsion: CO2 x2.
Action: Semi auto, fully auto - 6 round burst, blowback.
Ammunition Type: Steel BBs 4.5mm.
Ammunition Capacity: 300 in internal hopper, 30 in spring fed magazine (hopper gravity feeds magazine when spring retracted).
FPS: 430.
Trigger Pull: Very light.
Accuracy: Excellent in both single shot and 6 round burst mode!
Build Quality: This airgun is made in Japan and even though the external shell is made out of polymer, it still has a very solid feel.
Realism: This gun is not a direct replica but it does share similarities to the HK MP7A1 (4.6x30mm).
Purchased this gun from: The Replica Airguns Store

Pros:

  • Excellent value for the money.
  • Very accurate in both single and 6 round burst modes.
  • Super fun to shoot.
  • High rate of fire in full auto mode.
  • Picatinny rails on the top and bottom for accessories.
  • High FPS for a blowback gun.

Cons:

  • Mainly polymer shell.
  • Uses lots of CO2 (to be expected)
  • No but-stock or way to add a but-stock.
  • No adjustable sites. (a Red Dot scope is perfect for this airgun)

Comments:
The gun is plastic based but seems to be well built and has some weight to it. The design and functionality is well thought out and for the price of under $100 you can't rally ask for much more.

The rate of fire is fairly fast and there is only a small amount of blowback feel probably due to the weight of the gun. The Steel Storm is surprisingly loud, so shooting in a residential neighborhood may not be the best place to empty the two CO2 cartridges! I was able to get around 200 rounds from the dual CO2 cartridges, most of which were shot in full auto 6 round burst mode.

It would have been nice to have the BBs in the pull out magazine but the gravity fed hopper makes more sense feeding into the internal lower 30 round spring fed magazine.

The Umarex Steel Storm Full Auto CO2 BB Gun is very fun to shoot and is well worth the small amount of cost. So go get one!

This is a video I posted on YouTube a while back that has gotten a lot of views (Now Over 300,000). It's basically me and a friend shooting a couple of guns. The first set of guns (One in each hand - Tomb Raider Style) are two Walther CP99 Compacts made by Umarex. The CP99 Compact is a great little BB gun with a very fast and light trigger pull.

Next up is another Umarex product, a Walther PPK. This one is moded to fire Full Auto, making it one of the smallest Full Auto BB Guns. Too bad it's all over so fast! I'll look at doing some proper reviews of these fine Airguns down the road...
