Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol Field Test Review

I’ve already fully reviewed the CO2 BB version of this Umarex Beretta APX so you can checkout the Table Top and Field Test videos for the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol. And if you want to see the Airsoft version in more detail and find out more about the specifications then watch my Table Top Review for the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol.

Starting with my Chronograph velocity testing for the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol, I placed 5 .20 gram Airsoft rounds through my Chrony using a brand new CO2 and was able to average right around 298 fps. Pretty close to Umarex’s claim of 325. Keep in mind it was not super warm at right around 15 degrees Celsius or 60 degrees Fahrenheit. In a warmer environment I would expect to get right up to the 325 fps Umarex has stated on the box.

For the accuracy portion of my Field test for the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol I setup a new paper target down range and placed 10 rounds into it from my seated and rested shooting position. The Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol shot very well centered getting most of the 10 rounds right in the bullseye! The rest came out a bit making the 10 shot group just under 3 inches in diameter. Not bad at all for a low cost budget Airsoft Pistol.

Overall the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol is pretty decent for what you pay. It looks really good too. The trigger is a bit long but not too heavy for quick shooting. The slide spring is a bit weak which may be the reason the slide stayed back a couple of times for me? Other than that the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol is good value in my books and even comes with two metal stick magazines for quick reloading while on the field!

Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol Table Top Review

Type: Airsoft pistol.
Distributer: Umarex.
Model: Beretta APX.
Materials: Metal slide polymer frame.
Weight: 1.47 pounds (667 grams).
Barrel: 4.17 inches, non-rifled.
Propulsion: CO2 x1.
Action: Semi auto blowback, double action.
Ammunition Type: 6mm plastic Airsoft BB's.
Ammunition Capacity: 15 rounds.
FPS: 325.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol is a little different then that of the real steel APX. On the real steel APX there is actually a trigger safety and the actual gun uses a striker based system with a fairly short reset and take-up. On the Umarex Replica Airsoft version the trigger does not have a built in safety and the reset and take-up are much longer (full length). I have read that both the real steal and Airsoft versions of the APX both have about 6 pounds trigger pulls but I personally felt like the Airsoft version was heavier than that, perhaps because of the  long pull. Overall the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol trigger is acceptable but not my favorite.

Accuracy: I have not shot the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol so far but I have shot the 4.5mm Steel BB version of this CO2 Pistol and it performed well getting pretty much exactly what Umarex claimed for fps so I would expect the Airsfot version to shoot pretty close to 325 fps with .20 gram Airsoft BB’s. Accuracy for the Steel BB version was about 2 inches from 30 feet away with a 10 round group. Generally speaking the same Airsoft version will shoot a bit more open so I am hoping to get somewhere near a 4 inch group with the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol.

Build Quality: Very good, the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol feels heavier than 1.5 pounds in the hand, perhaps because it is a more compact gun. The metal slide, metal stick mag and internal metal parts all help to balance off the polymer frame nicely.  Fit and finish is also good.

Realism: The Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol overall is a really close replica to the real steel APX other than the added safety and missing trigger safety. The added safety does not stand out too much and does serve a purpose while the missing trigger safety could of at least been there for show if not an actual working safety. Other than that the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol is very close to the Beretta APX with its full licensing, open ejection port, recessed barrel working slide catch release and blowback operation.
Available at the: Replica Airguns Store

Pros:

  • Good weight and feel to it, build quality seems good overall.

  • Really nice replica of the original Beretta APX in most ways.

  • Working slide catch and release. Will also lock back on last shot.

  • Fully Beretta licensed through umarex.

  • Easy to see white dot sights front and back.

  • Recessed barrel and open ejection port for added realism.

  • Accessory rail for adding a laser or tactical light.

  • Stick magazine but plate gives the elusion of a full size magazine.

  • Warning instruction are nice and discreet!

  • Comes with two magazines and an additional back strap grip in a different color.

Cons:

  • Trigger is a bit long and perhaps heavier than the real steel APX trigger. It also does not have the trigger safety.

  • Has a stick magazine rather than a full size magazine.

  • Comes with orange tip but can be removed with some work.

Comments:

I like that the Airsoft version of the Beretta APX now comes in a box and also includes not only an extra magazine but also an included grip back strap in an alternate color for those that want a bit of customization. The Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol feels good in the hand and even thought the trigger is a bit long you can still get off some pretty quick shots since the trigger pull is not too tough. The Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback Airsoft Pistol makes a fairly economical option for your sidearm in Airsoft battles and if you want more than two magazines than additional magazines are not that expensive and will not weigh you down on the field.

Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol Field Test Review

I had a good time reviewing the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol, this airgun feels really good in the hand, has some nice crips blowback action, shoots pretty hard and shot right on target at 30 feet. The trigger is a bit long but it feels really smooth with an easy release and no real friction points to it.

Getting to the actual performance testing, I put 5 round through my Chrony Chronograph with the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol and was able to average 395 fps which by the way is exactly what Umarex says it will do! The temperature was not too hot or to cold and I was using a brand new CO2 so it was a fair test all the way around. It's good to see accurate fps specification coming from airguns companies.

Next I preformed my accuracy test shooting the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol at a paper target setup about 30 feet down range while using a seated and hand rested position for stability. I was impressed with how well the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol shot in terms of closeness to the bullseye, it really centered well on the paper. I put an 11 round string of 4.5mm steel BB's into the paper target and was able to get them all within about 2 inches. Not bad at all.

Overall I really like the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol, if you're an APX owner and want a BB shooting version for some back yard practice then you may want to pick one up. I would even suggest Glock owners or enthusiasts take a look at the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol since actual Glock airguns are hard to come by and the APX is pretty close in terms of size weight, shape and even looks.

Also make sure to checkout my Table Top Review for more closeup video and details on this CO2 Blowback air pistol.

Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol Table Top Review

Type: BB air pistol.

Ammunition Capacity: 19-20 rounds.
FPS: 395.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is a little different then that of the real steel APX. On the real steel APX there is actually a trigger safety and the actual gun uses a striker based system with a fairly short reset and take-up. Overall the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol trigger is acceptable but not my favorite.

Accuracy: I have not shot the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol so far but based on similar blowback stick magazine BB air pistols from Umarex with around 400 fps performance, I know that it will have a medium blowback feel and should shoot pretty close to the claimed 395 fps. I also expect at least a 2 inch or smaller 10 shot grouping from 30 feet back.

Build Quality: Very good, the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol feels heavier than 1.5 pounds in the hand, perhaps because it is a more compact gun. The metal slide, metal stick mag and internal metal parts all help to balance off the polymer frame nicely.  Fit and finish is also good.

Pros:

  • Great weight and feel to it, build quality seems really good.

  • Really nice replica of the original Beretta APX in most ways.

  • Working slide catch and release.

  • Fully Beretta licensed.

  • Easy to see white dot sights front and back.

  • Recessed barrel and open ejection port for added realism.

  • Accessory rail for adding a laser or tactical light.

  • Stick magazine but plate gives the elusion of a full size magazine and covers the CO2 tab.

  • Warning instruction are nice and discreet!

Cons:

  • Trigger is a bit long and perhaps heavier than the real steel APX trigger. It also does not have the trigger safety.

  • Has a stick magazine rather than a full size magazine.

  • Sights are non-adjustable which is common with airguns like this one.

Comments:

It's always nice to get another airgun replica for fans of that particular real steel gun so they have a low cost shooting option they can use in a lot more locations for some safe trigger time. The Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is a great addition for sure and it's also nice that it is somewhat Glock like in looks and operation for those Glock fans out there that are having a tuff time locating a Glock airgun replica :) Other than my trigger beef, I really like the Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol. I hope it performs as good as it looks when  I do my field test shooting video in a bit.

Umarex Legends MP 40 and Beretta APX Preview Video

It feels like I have been waiting forever to get my hands on the Umarex Legends MP 40 CO2 Blowback 4.5mm Steel BB Full Auto Machine Gun. I first saw the Legends MP 40 at SHOT Show this year in Las Vegas and immediately loved it, it was my top pick for the show and I predicted it would be a super hot item in terms of sales.

What's not to love about the Umarex Legends MP 40 CO2 Blowback 4.5mm Steel BB Full Auto Machine Gun? It's pretty much all metal weighing in at close to 8 pounds, The Legends MP has a max fps of up to 465, shoots in both semi and full auto and has a high capacity all metal 52 round magazine that holds not only 1 CO2 but 2 CO2 for close to 200 rounds of semi auto shooting or about 140 shots in full auto. I really look forward to my Field Test Shooting Review of the Umarex Legends MP 40!

Not to be out shadowed or forgotten in the preview video, I also show off another 2017 SHOT Show CO2 Blowback Air Pistol, the Umarex Beretta APX! Right away the Umarex Beretta APX feels nice and solid in the hand weighing in at around 1.5 pounds with a heavy metal slide and really high quality plastic or polymer frame. You will find some nice details like a cut out ejection port and recessed barrel and of course full Beretta licensing from Umarex. The Umarex Beretta APX CO2 Blowback BB Pistol has a pretty decent claimed fps of close to 400 and a 20 round stick magazine that when inserted has that full size magazine look to it.

You'll also find other nice details like white dot sights front and back and a working slide catch release. My only gripe with the Beretta APX is the trigger, it does not ahed the trigger safety you would find on the real steel Beretta APX and the action is very long and perhaps a bit heavy. Other than that the Umarex Beretta APX looks to be a really nice replica airgun.

SHOT Show 2017 Umarex Interview

Next up from SHOT Show 2017 in Las vegas, I bring you my Umarex Interview with Bradley Burgin! Bradley showcases two new pistol from Umarex Airguns. First we take a look at the Umarex SA10 CO2 Blowback Pellet and BB Pistol. The Umarex SA10 has a unique full size drop our metal magazine that not only holds the CO2 but also houses 4 8 shot rotary magazines that can be pre loaded and then hot swapped as required. Each 8 shot rotary magazine can be loaded with either 4.5mm Steel BB's or .177 caliber pellets. The Umarex SA10 comes in at a hefty 2 pounds and can shoot up to 426 fps. The barrel is also threaded for attaching an optional mock silencer.

Next up Bradley showed me the ultra realistic and fully licensed Beretta APX which is a Blowback CO2 BB Pistol that like its real steel big brother has a locking metal slide and polymer frame. The Umarex Beretta APX has a 19 round stick magazine and shoots 4.5mm steel BB's at 400 fps.

Last but not least and perhaps the most exciting product from Umarex for me was the Umarex Legends MP. The Legends MP is a replica of the German MP40 submachine gun and even has semi and full auto selectability! The Umarex Legends MP is a mostly metal rifle and comes in at 7.7 pounds. The full size magazine holds two CO2 cartridges along with 60 4.5mm steel BB's for an almost endless supply of ammo :) The Umarex Legends MP like the real German MP40 has a metal folding stock and propels steel BB's at 400 fps.
