Baikal IZH MP-61 Side Lever Spring Piston Air Rifle Review

Type: Pellet air rifle.
Manufacturer: Baikal.
Model: IZH MP-61.
Materials: Metal & plastic.
Weight: 4.3 pounds.
Barrel: 18.5 inches, metal-rifled.
Propulsion: Spring piston.
Action: Repeater.
Ammunition Type: .177 caliber pellets.
Ammunition Capacity: 5 rounds.
FPS: 490.
Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the IZH MP-61 is a nice light 1.4 pounds and the release stage is also adjustable, you actually need to be careful of accidental shots as the trigger is light enough to go off before you are ready to shoot.
Accuracy: Very good, I was not so sure when first using the IZH-61 with my initial scope and pellet setup but my second open sight test with different pellets yielded a very tight 1 inch group from 30 feet out in a standing unrested position.

Build Quality: This is a no-nonsense gun made Russian style, it is built to be cost effective so there are parts that could be made with metal that are plastic but there isn't anything on this gun that feels cheap or poorly built. Baikal also doesn't cheap out on the plastic as not all plastic is the same. I actually dropped the IZH MP-61 right on the front hooded sight without any adverse effects, cheap plastic would have cracked and broken.
Realism: Since the Baikal IZH-61 is not a replica gun, I can not really compare it to any existing one rifle out there, but it does look very tactical in design, much more so then your standard spring piston air rifle.
Purchased this rifle from: The Replica Airguns Store.

Pros:

  • Inexpensive spring piston rifle.
  • Very unique looking air rifle.
  • Side pull lever design.
  • 5 round magazine/clip.
  • Right on the money with FPS.
  • Adjustable Stock.
  • Adjustable Trigger.
  • 11mm dovetail rail mount for scopes.
  • Very light weigh and easy to cock.
  • Made in Russia

Cons:

  • Plastic stock seems to mark up easy - kind of part of the utilitarian look.
  • Mechanics takes a bit of getting use to.
  • Scope rail mount is a bit short.

Comments:
The Baikal IZH MP-61 is a really nice low cost yet full featured air riffle! You really get a lot of rifle for your money: You get an efficient side lever design with a 5 shot magazines for quick repeat shots, a very light weight and adjustable trigger, an adjustable stock, a rail mount for a scope and one of the more tactical looking air rifles available on the market. The Baikal MP-61 also takes the FPS right up to the limit without going over so no license or PAL is required to own this one in Canada. This air rifle is designed for target shooting but could also be used for small pest control if your marksmanship is good enough to hit the vital kill zones of your prey.

Umarex MP5K PDW CO2 BB Gun Chronograph - Shooting & Slow-mo

The Umarex MP5K PDW is another gun I reviewed a while back that I though could use a bit of an update video with some of the new gadgets I have to added to my videos these days... This time my Umarex MP5K PDW gets the office Replica Airguns Chronograph test, I take it through an accuracy test shooting 8 rounds at a target from 20 feet out in a free standing position. And to end things off and since the Umarex MP5K PDW has a blowback bolt or at least what appears to be a blowback bolt, I also take some slow motion high speed video of the blowback in action.

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

I also got to play around with my DRIFT HD170 Point of View Action Camera and use it to take some really cool first person style video of teh Umarex MP5 in action. Overall I was impressed with the H&K MP5K BB gun overall, it shot very accurately when shooting slow and in rapid fire and it also got right up to the 400 FPS factory claim.

Enjoy my Vimeo Video of the Umarex MP5K PDW CO2 BB Gun getting Chronographed, Shooting on a Target and captured in Slow Motion...

Daisy Red Ryder vs Crosman Marlin Cowboy BB Rifle Comparison Review

OK to start things off, this is a review of the Daisy Red Ryder Lever action BB Rifle but the Vimeo Video also compares the Red Ryder to the very similar Crosman Marlin Cowboy Lever Action BB Riffle, If you have not checked my Marlin Cowboy review out, you can see it here.

So for the most part I am going to focus on the Red Ryder in this text version but I will refer to the Marlin Cowboy when comparing the two BB air rifles.

Type: BB spring air rifle.

Manufacturer: Daisy.

Model:Red Ryder.

Materials: Mostly metal and wood.

Weight: 2.2 pounds.

Barrel: Smooth bore.

Propulsion: Spring.

Action: Lever action.

Ammunition Type: Steel BBs 4.5mm.

Ammunition Capacity: 650 rounds.

FPS: Up-to 350.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull is pretty good, not super light but predictable. (the trigger area is much larger then the Crosman Marlin Cowboy which may be more suitable for adults with thick fingers)

Accuracy: When I originally tested my Marline Cowboy I thought it performed well but the Daisy Red Ryder definitely has the advantage in the accuracy department, at least in my testing. I got about a 1.5 inch 8 shot group from a free standing position 20 feet away from the target.

Build Quality: This is a pretty much all metal and wood gun with a build quality almost exactly like the Crosman Marlin Cowboy. Daisy has even made some improvements like upgrading the lever to metal from plastic, most likely to compete with Crosman on this feature. The only plastic I found was the trigger, safety and front sight assembly.

Realism: Even though this BB gun is styled after the classic lever action Cowboy Rifle, it's not a close replica to any that I know of. You have to keep in mind the purpose of this gun - meant primarily for younger first time shooters. There are some nice touches like the leather tassels and the Red Ryder name burned into the stock .

Purchased From: Walmart.

Pros:

  • Inexpensive introduction to the sport of Airgun shooting.

  • Made out of Mostly Metal and Wood - Now including the Lever.

  • Large capacity internal barrel magazine (650 rounds).

  • Adjustable rear sight for height.

  • Decent 300+ fps velocity.

  • Excellent accuracy and consistency.

  • The original maker of this style of BB rifle - great track record!

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

Cons:

  • Plastic trigger, safety and front sight assembly.

  • Some people may find the non removable metal loop for the leather tassel a bit intrusive.

Comments:

I think this is a wonderful little BB rifle and even though it's intended for the young entry level shooter it can make a great back yard plinker that anyone can join in and enjoy - adults included! I plan to be shooting either the Red Ryder or my Marline Cowboy side by side with my little guy when he is old enough to shoot one of these fine lever action BB rifles. When it comes to picking between the Daisy Red Ryder or the Crosman Marlin Cowboy Lever Action BB Rifles it comes down to a few points: Both have almost the exact same build quality so it may come down to which look you like best? The Daisy was more accurate while the Crosman had a bit more power. The Red Ryder had the lighter but longer lever action pull while the Marlin Cowboy had a heavier shorter lever pull.

If you can't decide just buy them both because they are dirt cheap to buy and tons of fun to shoot, so when your friends come over you can always pass them one so they won't feel left out!

Henry Lever Action Rimfire .22 Caliber Rifle Overview

First off, you may have noticed this Henry Lever Action Rimfire .22 Caliber Rifle is not an airgun or a blank gun! So why am I reviewing it? This isn't going to be a review as much as it's going to be an overview.

I just really wanted to share this awesome little .22 caliber rimfire shooter with you because if you're like me then you may also appreciate the Henry Lever Action Rimfire .22 Caliber Rifle like I do. One reason I like airguns is because they are generally lower cost to purchase and lower cost to shoot then your average powder burner. My Henry .22 only set me back $269 and I have probably paid more for some of my airguns so this was not to bad on the pocket book. Another bonus is I can shoot this gun all day long because .22 caliber rimfire ammo is about 1/10th or less the cost of regular powder based ammo. I can buy a box of 500+ shells for under $20!

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

When purchasing a rimfire .22 caliber gun, you have to also consider what ammunition you are going to be using as not all rimfire .22 caliber guns will shoot all types of .22 caliber ammo. You can get .22 rimfire ammunition in "Long Rifle", "Long", "Short" and even "Buckshot". Keep in mind that not all .22 caliber guns will operate properly with all kinds of .22 caliber rimfire ammo. For instance, autoloaders generally require the "Long Rifle" ammunition to cycle properly. What I love about the Henry Lever Action Rimfire .22 is that it can shoot pretty much any .22 caliber rimfire ammunition you through at it except for the magnum loads which is a totally different gun altogether.

Another bonus to using the .22 caliber short ammo is that it is about as loud as a standard airgun, at least when using a rifle. So if you don't want to draw attention to yourself then pickup some shorts and plink away! Depending on what manufacturer of shorts you purchase they tend to shoot in the 700-1000 FPS using around a 20-30 grain bullet, so they are still perfectly good for small pest control. Just make sure to keep in mind what is beyond your target as a 20-30 grain bullet will penetrate objects and travel farther then a much lighter .22 caliber pellet even traveling at the same speed.

As this is just an overview I want ot cover some of the main points about the Henry Lever Action Rimfire .22 Caliber Rifle...

  • Shoots .22 caliber rimfire ammunition in Long Rifle, Long and Short.

  • Uses a Lever Action with a tube fed magazine.

  • Magazine holds: 15-LR, 17-L, 21-S.

  • Weighs 5.25 pounds.

  • Has an 18 1/4 inch barrel and is 36 1/2 inches long.

  • Has an adjustable rear sight and hooded front sight with a grooved receiver for easy scope mounting.

  • It's mostly all metal and wood.

  • Is totally fun to shoot and looks awesome!

So that's a wrap, if you want more info on this very cool .22 then check out the Henry Website.

Benjamin Sheridan Super Streak .22 Caliber Break Barrel Rifle

I purchased a bunch of "near new" air guns from a friend of mine last week who was't using them anymore and thought I could put them to better use. I was happy to oblige!

I already have the Crosman Quest 800 Break Barrel .22 caliber rifle for my pest control but you can always use one with more power! The break barrel Benjamin Sheridan Super Streak in .22 caliber is rated at up to 1000 fps and it is a real beast of an air gun to say the least. It came with a nice 4-16-40mm scope and I added an NCStar bi-pod to it to help distribute some of the weight.

I sighted it in at about 50 feet and was able to get about a nice 1 inch grouping with it from a rested position. I am looking forward to using this gun when my fruit trees start producing.

Marlin Cowboy Lever Action BB Rifle Chronograph Test

Related Posts:

I don't know if a lot of people out there are going to be interested in the feet per second performance of what some might call a kids BB gun, but I know I was. And since I already had my Chrony chronograph setup I thought it would be just as easy to put my Crosman Marlin Cowboy Lever Action BB shooter through the paces.

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

The Cowboy has a claimed feet per second rating of  "up to" 350 fps so I wasn't expecting too much. Right off the bat it hit around 300 fps and kept climbing till it hit just under 320 feet per second. I even went back later after shooting it for a bit and hit got to the mid 320's! I think it just needed a bit of breaking in to hit it's full potential.

Anyway, The Crosman Marline Cowboy Lever action rifle is a really fun BB gun to shoot and my son is going to love it when he gets it for his birthday one of these years, when he's ready...

Umarex CX4 Storm gets some new toys - 3x9x40 Scope and Foregrip

My scope mounting hardware came in today and I got right to work adding my new Aim 3x9x40 Rubber Scope and Foregrip to it. I wasn't planning on putting on the Foregrip, it just kind of happened and it looks good, so it may just stay on the CX4?

I ordered a Picitinny/Weaver Deluxe Riser Mount because I wasn't sure if the scope would clear the built in sites and I was thinking I wanted to mount the 3x9x40 Scope toward the rear but as it happened my high rise ring mounts where already the perfect hight and the Picitinny/Weaver Deluxe Riser Mount I ordered wasn't required!

Guess I'll have to shelf the Riser Mount for another project, I'm sure one day it will come in handy.

Some more pictures of the new setup:

Cybergun - KWC Mini UZI BB Gun Full Auto Modification

Related Posts:

"Before you attempt to do this modification you need to be aware that it may void your warrantee and/or you may fail and either break something or incorrectly reassemble your Mini UZI rendering it "Broked"! This is your problem so please do not attempt this modification (even though it is fairly easy to do) unless you're 100% confident you can do it and are aware of the possible consequences. Make sure to also take into account any gun laws in your area prohibiting full-auto capable firearms!"

(Special thanks to Herman for showing me the ropes on this modification)

This modification will make your semi-auto "only" Cybergun/KWC Mini UZI BB Gun into a full auto capable 4.5mm BB machine gun. From the factory the full auto switch position (Far Left "A") is disabled but the full auto selector position is visible. The actual full-auto functionality is still present in the Mini UZI but has been decommissioned by the simple means of blocking the selector switch from being moved to the far left full-auto or "A" position.

This full auto modification will show you how to disassemble the Cybergun - KWC Mini UZI BB Gun and remove the small plastic selector switch blockage so you will be able to manually switch between semi auto and full auto modes. This modification takes about 15 minutes to complete.

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

You will need the following tools: A pair of pliers and either a pair of small wire cutters or a file.

Let's begin! Below are the two pre-modification positions available from the factory:

"S - SAFE"

"R - SEMI AUTO"

Below is a closeup of the top bolt cover that we will be removing to access the internal bolt for removal:

In the next photo we have removed the bolt cover by pressing the "angled button" towards the rear sight:

And now the bolt is removed:

I removed the grips but this is not necessary:

Now you will need to remove the lower receiver pin located at the back end of the receiver closest to the grip safety. Use a pair of pliers to pinch the metal pin while pushing it through. Once the pin is started you can use the pliers on the other side to pull the pin all the way out. You may need to us a fair amount of force to do this as the fit of the pin is tight:

Once the pin is removed the lower receiver can be detached:

You can see in the picture below the small plastic nub that we will need to remove in order to restore full-auto capability:

I used a pair of small wire cutters to clip this plastic nub off, but you could use a file too. Just make sure that the plastic is flush and does not have any burs or protrusions.

Below is a photo of the Plastic Nub removed from another angle:

After that, all you need to do is reassemble you Mini UZI in revers order to finnish the Full Auto modification.

In the below Photos you can see we have restored the ability to move the fire selector switch over to the "Far Left" or "A" position, reenabling the Cybergun - KWC Mini UZI BB Gun to shoot in full auto when desired.

"A - FULL AUTO"

Now enjoy your Cybergun - KWC Mini UZI BB Gun in full-auto as it was originally designed!

  • YOU WILL LOOSE ALL THE SIG SAUER MARKINGS ON THE GUN.

Having said all that, this is my first ever instructional so I’m going to try and make this walkthrough as easy as I can for you to understand. You will need the following: Flat tip Screwdriver for the grips, Small Philips Head screwdriver, small punch & needle nose pliers – the last 2 are optional.

Make sure you have a clean work space and lay out every part in the order that you remove it Left to Right, come reassembly time you work Right to Left it makes reassembly so much easier.

Step 1:

Field Strip the slide until it looks like this:

Unscrew these 2 screws, these hold in the “Breech Block” once your unscrewed cup the end of the slide in your hand and let the Breech & Screws fall in your hand – Set these aside.

That’s it your Slide should look like this:

It is now ready for paint removal.

Step 2:

Take the Frame and start removing the grips Left hand side first:

Flip the frame over and remove the right hand side grips:

Carefully remove the trigger return spring, it is under tension and it WILL fly across the room – I spent an hour looking for it one day! Also while we are at it, you can remove the cover to the magazine release.

To remove the safety, place your flat tip screwdriver between the frame and the safety and twist ever so gently this will separate the safety and all you need to do now is grab the safety from either side and gently pull & wiggle until it separates.

Once the safety is removed you will see the safety bar, this lifts off.

Step 3:

Lift this little pin out and remove the spring, very carefully push this pin from the other side and remove, be careful because once this happens your hammer assembly is loose and free from the frame.

Slowly and gently remove the hammer assembly:

Note the little shiny piece that sits on the side of the hammer assembly, try very hard not to let this piece fly out, it is a pain to get back in, if it does fly out keep calm and take your time, don’t force the little spring in, it seats in behind the shiny metal thing – sorry I don’t have a proper name for it.

Also make sure that the spring next to it is in the locked open position, if it snaps back just get the tip of a small screwdriver and slide it to the left until it locks.

The hammer return spring assembly at the back of the grips can be removed and set aside.

Removing the trigger assembly is easier than it looks; you need to remove the takedown lever by rotating it counter clockwise until it stops.

Push it through the frame and rotate it back clockwise to remove it all together.

Remove the screw holding the trigger assembly:

Lift out the trigger assembly; be careful of the slide lock spring it wont Fly out, but it will fall out.

If you want to remove the magazine release, there is a spring that sits at the rear of the trigger guard;

Push the magazine release in part way & with the flat tip screwdriver lifts the up to remove it, once removed the magazine release will simply fall out.

THAT’S IT! We’re done, ready for the paint removal. Any paint stripper is fine.

KEEP IT WELL AWAY FROM THE PLASTIC PARTS!

Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for use of their product and thoroughly clean the slide and frame after you have removed the paint.

YOU WILL LOOSE ALL THE SIG Sauer MARKINGS ON THE GUN.

Rub over the slide and frame with #0000 Steel wool or 1200 grit Wet & Dry paper. Clean again and using the paper or steel wool with some ALUMINUM polishing compound like Autosol and some good ol fashioned elbow grease polish the slide and frame until you reach your desired outcome. Clean it all down again and wipe it down with a rag that has had gun oil or my preference “Fluid Film”.

Reassemble the gun in the reverse order and viola one shiny SIG Sauer X-Five.

Crosman Marlin Cowboy Lever Action BB Rifle Review

Related Posts:

Type: BB spring air rifle.

Manufacturer: Crosman.

Model:Marlin Cowboy.

Materials: Mostly metal and wood.

Weight: 2.75 pounds.

Barrel: Smooth bore.

Propulsion: Spring.

Action: Lever action.

Ammunition Type: Steel BBs 4.5mm.

Ammunition Capacity: 700 rounds.

FPS: Up-to 350.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull is pretty good, not super light but predictable.

Accuracy: About as good as you can expect from a kids sub $50 BB gun with a non-rifled barrel, it was actually better than I thought it would be. I did experience some flyer BB's, which may have been due to the gun not being broken in yet.

Build Quality: When you pay under $50 for a BB gun you don't expect the build quality to be over the top but this little BB rifle is actually pretty nice! It's almost entirely made out of metal and wood, even the lever is made out of metal unlike its competition the Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun. The only plastic I found was the trigger, safety and front sight assembly.

Realism: Even though this BB gun is styled after the Original 1984 Marlin Cowboy, it's not a close replica. You have to keep in mind the purpose of this gun - meant primarily for young first time shooters. For its intent and purpose it does look really nice and if I was a youngster receiving this gun on a birthday or as a Christmas present, I probably wouldn't get much sleep thinking about shooting this gun.

Purchased From: Wholesale Sports Outdoor Outfitters.

Pros:

  • Inexpensive introduction to the sport of Airgun shooting.

  • Made out of Mostly Metal and Wood - Including the Lever.

  • Large capacity internal barrel magazine (700 rounds).

  • Adjustable rear sight.

  • Decent 350 fps velocity.

  • 20 pound lever action pull adding a level of safety to the over enthusiastic young shooter.

Cons:

  • Plastic trigger, safety and front sight assembly.

  • Very small trigger hole - if you are an adult shooter and have thick fingers (Didn't bother me)!.

Comments:

I think this is a wonderful little BB rifle and even though it's intended for the young entry level shooter it can make a great back yard plinker that anyone can join in and enjoy - adults included! The gold standard is the Daisy Red Ryder type BB, the Crosman Marlin Cowboy BB rifle is a nice addition to this market and is definitely a contender to think about.

TV, Movie & Film Prop Guns For Hire!

I had an idea the other day, Since I have all these Replica Guns and just about any TV show, Movie or even Internet Video that uses guns is going to need guns that look real, why not put my Replica Guns along with myself up for hire!

The first thing one must do with an idea like this is a bit of research to make sure there aren't any major road blocks like the law, and getting thrown in jail, so I called my local RCMP Chief Firearms Officer and we had a talk. Long story short, if I can buy the guns I'm going to be using without a firearms license, then I don't need a Business Firearms License to use my guns on set.

What most large budget TV and Film productions do is a hire a "Gun Wrangler" who is authorized to transport and supervise real steel guns on set - Very Expensive!!!

So with my much lower overhead and next to no red tape I can now offer a large and growing assortment of Replica guns for use on set in TV and Film. Right now I am only offering this in Canada, in the Vancouver and lower mainland areas.

So if you need guns for your TV, Film or Movie - You know who to call - Click on the link for more info on TV, Movie & Film Prop Guns For Hire!

Marlin Cowboy Lever Action BB Gun

I wasn't planning on buying a BB Air Gun today but I walked into my local Wholesale Sports Outdoor Outfitters and was expecting to see absolutely no airguns and/or airgun supplies but to my amazement they had an entire plethora of air powered weaponry on display. They went from literally nothing to a very decent assortment in about a week. Kudos to them!

So back to the Marlin Cowboy Lever Action BB Gun... I have been reading up on this nice little entry level BB rifle a bit recently as it only became available from Crosman in September of this year, so when I saw it there in the showcase for a measly $43.99 Canadian, I was a bit surprised. It has always been in my plan to pick up a Red Ryder type BB rifle for my son and I was in no hurry because he is only 3 1/2 years old but hey, why not pick one up now and when he's old enough I'll pass it on to him!

So why did I go for the Crosman over the Daisy? There's not a huge difference but I liked the look of the Crosman Marlin Cowboy over the Dasiy Red Ryder and also the fact that the Marlin Cowboy has more metal specifically the Lever is made out of metal where as the Red Ryder has a plastic lever.

The Crosman Marlin Cowboy is a replica or should I say styled after the Marlin Model 1984 Cowboy, as far as being an accurate replica... that's not really the purpose of this little BB gun. It's intended as an introduction to the world of shooting for kids and so it's pretty durable, cheap and far from over powered. The Marlin Cowboy is spring powered via the 20 pound pull lever action (May need an adult to do this adding another level of safety) and has an fps of up to 350. It holds up to 700 4.5mm steel BB's within the internal gravity fed barrel magazine and also has an adjustable rear sight. The barrel is not rifled as is with most BB guns.

I gave it a quick trial test, firing off about 50 BB's, some at miscellaneous cans and plastic items, and then 15 rounds at a target to get an idea of the accuracy. Even with its minimal fps, the Marlin Cowboy sends cans and small items flying with a nice cracking sound. I was fairly impressed with the grouping I got (about 2 inches from about 15 feet out), but I did get a few rouge BB's that for some reason liked to veer high and to the left. This is probably due to the gun not being broken-in yet and having metal and oil bits clinging on to some of the BB's. Also the gravity fed BB's require a bit of trial and error figuring out the best way to hold and cock the gun to ensure the least amount of misfires.

Overall the Crosman Marlin Cowboy Lever Action BB Rifle was very fun to shoot and the small interruptions when engaging the lever action made it that much more enjoyable!

Beretta CX4 Rifle & PX4 Storm Tactical Pistol Added to Collection

Related Posts:

I acquired a couple new CO2 blowback pellet guns to add to my Airgun Collection! I say new but they are actually used (Barley!). I got them off of a friend who wasn't really using them any more and he figured if he wanted to shoot them, he could always just drop by. Buying second hand is a good way to purchase items if you can find what you're looking for and if it's in good condition.

The Beretta CX4 Storm is a German made true-blowback semi-auto CO2 air rifle that uses 88 gram CO2 tanks and has a 30 round removable magazine. The claimed FPS is rated at 495 although I suspect it shoots under this. It is nearly identical to it's 9mm and 40 Cal brother. It even comes in the same case.

The Beretta PX4 Storm Tactical Pistol is basically the same gun as my Non-tactical Beretta PX4 Blowback Airgun but in two-tone and with a few added accessories such as a Silencer, Rail System, Red Dot Sight, and Tactical Flashlight. It uses regular 12 gram CO2 cartridges, has a 16 round magazine with a claimed FPS of 380.

As with all of my air guns, I plan to eventually review these two nice additions to my Replica Airgun Collection!
