Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the ASG CZ P-09 DUTY is similarly to the Umarex PX4 Storm and Gamo Blowback Pellet Pistols. All three Pellet shooting pistols use double sided stick based rotary magazines that hold 8 rounds in each end. They also all shoot with a single action hammer (set to the cocked position by the blowback action) while the first stage of the trigger rotates the rotary magazine and indexes a round. So I would consider them to be single/double action hybrids. The trigger pull in general is not overly heavy but it is long and there are noticeable sticky points when the magazine is rotating and the hammer is being released.

Accuracy: During my Field Shooting Test I decided to allocate 8 rounds for each test station since the magazine holds 8 rounds on each end. During my Chrony test the ASG CZ P-09 Duty started out in the high 300's and then dropped to the low 300's with an average 8 shot velocity of 334 fps. From the 30 foot mark shooting on a paper target using a semi rested position (Sand bag up front and standing in the back), I was impressed to see 7 of my 8 shots to all hit within 1 inch of each other while the oddball got away a bit and extended the grouping out to about 2 inches. The ASG CZ P-09 Duty CO2 Blowback Pellet-BB Pistol did shoot a hair low and to the left a bit but not too extreme.

Build Quality: Overall I found the ASG CZ P-09 Duty to have a good solid build quality to it, everything functioned as it should with the exception of the front sight vibrating lose and almost popping out. I would recommend checking the front sight on your CZ P-09 and making sure to super glue it in place if you find it to be loose or you could lose it while shooting the pistol and once it falls off I doubt you would find it again? The only other questionable design is the way the CO2 cover fits on this pistol. It kind of clips in place but seemed like it could loosen up over time.

Realism: The ASG CZ P-09 Duty CO2 Blowback Pellet - BB Pistol is a close replica to the real steel CZ P-09 Duty, the only real giveaway is the ejection port that is not cut out but rather moulded into the slide. I would have liked to have seen an open ejection port like the Umarex PX4. The CZ licensing and recessed barrel do help to make this a very believable Pellet shooting replica.

Pros:

• Shot a nice tight group for me, about 1 inches with 8 shots.

• Like the white dot sights, easy to sight in on most backgrounds.

• Can use both Pellets and BB's if you choose to.

• Fully CZ Licensed.

• Lots of metal where it needs to be: Slide, barrel, trigger, hammer, safety and slide catch/release.

• Nice heavy blowback action.

Cons:

• Slide catch release is non-functioning, don't know when you are out of ammo?

• Sights are non-adjustable and almost lost the front sight while shooting it.

• Not sure I like the CO2 cover, seems a bit flimsy

• Ejection port is not cut out. 

Comments:

It's nice to see another Pellet shooting blowback replica air pistol and one that has really great accuracy as well. There are a few shortcoming on the ASG CZ P-09 Duty like the moulded ejection port and the kind of lose fitting CO2 cover but overall the ASG CZ P-09 Duty is a blowback pellet pistol worth looking into. In terms of looking the part of a CZ P-09 Duty, the ASG pellet version does this very well with it's full CZ licensing and attention to detail throughout.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex Colt Commander CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistol is exactly what you would expect from a true single action 1911 styled pistol. It has a short take up and then a nice light and crisp pull and release. Because of the similar mechanics not only to the trigger but other aspects of this gun, it would make a truly awesome low cost trainer to be used when your real 1911 is not practical and also to save on the high cost of real 45 semi auto shells.

Accuracy: I shot the Umarex Colt Commander BB gun at a target from 30 feet away in a semi rested position, and it performed well getting an 8 shot 1.5 inch grouping very close to the bulls-eye that extended a little larger with three additional rounds that came outside the smaller 8 shot grouping. The sights are non-adjustable even thought they kind of look like they are so it was nice to see that this BB pistol was already dialed in pretty good! My initial Chrony testing puts this gun right in the 300-325 fps range getting a 5 shot average of 306 fps which is just fine for this style of heavy full realistic blowback action BB shooter. The outside temperature was 22 Celsius (72 Fahrenheit) so the Colt Commander should shoot a bit quicker on a warmer day. You can expect to get three good magazines worth of shots with some extra CO2 left over for a potential 4th magazine. If you slow your shooting down and let the gun and CO2 warm up between magazines you can get 4 magazines with this BB gun for sure.

Build Quality: Like the other KWC 1911's, the Umarex Colt Commander version is overall a well built and mechanically sound BB pistol. Tolerances are good and the finish may even be a bit better than what KWC makes for its own non-licensed versions of this very popular 1911 series.

Realism: The Umarex Colt Commander CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistol is as close as you can get to a real steel 1911 styled 45 semi auto but with a slight modern Tactical look to it, the Colt Commander version has the addition of a: Tac style trigger and hammer, and upgraded white dot sights. This gun is nearly all metal with a very heavy blowback action that simulates the more sluggish and delayed blowback of a real steel 1911. And the true 1911 single action trigger will not disappoint you either.

Pros:

• All metal construction - Good weight and solid feeling gun.

• Nice heavy blowback action that replicates a 1911 very well.

• Very Accurate 1911 replica in terms of looks and mechanical aspects.

• Decent accuracy, not too bad amount off shots for this style of gun about 3+ good magazines.

• All metal full size dropout magazine that holds the BB's and CO2.

• Nice addition of some Tactical features (Tac style trigger and hammer, white dot sights)

• Chrome coated barrel and breach not only look really nice but wear better.

Cons:

• Sacrifice fps and shots per CO2 because of the heavy blowback but worth it.

• Not a big fan of the white "S & F" on the safety or the white warning instructions on the slide.

Comments:

Sure the Umarex Colt Commander CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistol is yet another KWC made 1911 but Umarex has really captured the classic 1911 style without taking it too far into the Tactical realm. The addition of the modernized white dot sights, along with the machined trigger and hammer and the chrome barrel and breach give this BB shooting blowback 1911 a well balanced look.  If you're looking for a traditional 1911 A1 but with just a few modernized tweaks, then check out the Umarex Colt Commander.

This Field Test Shooting video is not going to have any big surprises but even so I really like shooting these KWC made CO2 Blowback BB 1911 Replicas and the Umarex Colt Commander is no exception.

So let's get right to the test results! I started off by shooting 5 rounds through my Chronograph using a brand new CO2 with Umarex 5.1 grain zinc coated 4.5 mm Steel BB's. My 5 shot average velocity was 306 fps and the temperature on this day was fairly average at 22 Celsius (72 Fahrenheit). So on a warmer day you can expect to get a bit higher fps out of the Umarex Colt Commander CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistol.

Moving on to the Target accuracy performance, I shot 10 rounds from the Umarex Colt Commander from 30 feet back using a semi rested position (Sand bag in the front, standing in the back). I was able to place the bulk of the shots within a 1.5 inch group but three came out extending the group somewhat, overall the placement was fairly well centered on target and the white dot sights make sighting the Umarex Colt Commander CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistol really easy on just about any color background.

The single action 1911 type trigger is exactly what you would expect from a 1911, short, light and crisp. The blowback action is solid and like a real 1911 almost has that delayed sluggish feel to it.

It is getting hard to pick which version of this KWC made pistol to buy these days since you can now get the KWC unlicensed classic 1911, or the KWC Tac A1 version also available in a Blackwater branded model. Of Course there is the Cybergun Tanfoglio 1911 and Swiss Arms version and now the Umarex Colt Commander. So now all you have to do is decide which one you like the best :)

I finally got the opportunity to shoot the ASG CZ P-09 Duty CO2 Blowback Pellet/BB Pistol that I saw back in January of this Year while I was attending the SHOT Show in Vegas. Essentially the ASG CZ P-09 Duty is built similarly to the Umarex PX4 Storm and Gamo Blowback Pellet Pistols. They all use double sided stick based rotary magazines that hold 8 rounds in each end. Anyways, on with this field test shooting review... As per my normal field test shooting reviews, I shoot some rounds through my Chronograph to get an average fps rating and I also step back 30 feet from a paper target and use a semi rested position to place a series of rounds downrange. I decided to allocate 8 rounds for each test station since the magazine holds 8 rounds on each end. All in all the blowback is fairly heavy, at least enough to shake the front sight around so much that it almost fell off the gun so be careful of this and perhaps super glue yours in before you lose it somewhere.

The trigger on the CZ P-09 Duty is pretty much the same as all the other blowback rotary mag pellet airguns on the market, kind of long but not too heavy yet still very usable.

The Umarex Colt Python 357 has taken it up a notch by adding just a bit more overall weight than most comparable shell loading BB revolvers, a smother trigger and hammer mechanism and styling this revolver on the Classic Colt Python platform. If you're a revolver fan, make sure to grab one of these and if you're not a revolver fan, this pistol may just change your mind :)

Moving on with the Accuracy Shooting Test, I set myself up 30 feet away using a semi-rested stance (Sand bag up front, standing in the back) I did not get my best grouping in this test, with my 10 shot group spreading out to almost 3.5 inches. During my previous pretest, I was able to shoot a tighter 2 inch group with 10 well placed shots using the Umarex Walther PPS.

Even with my less then best results in the accuracy department, I still love this pistol, it has a reasonable trigger with a nice snappy blowback that is a bit surprising from such a tiny BB pistol, FPS is also good considering its size and I know this gun is able to shoot much tighter than I performed during this test.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Colt Python 357 CO2 BB Revolver is good in both single and double action, even better than the Dan Wesson and S&W 327 TRR8 shell loading revolvers, most likely because the spring tension that pushes the inner barrel to make contact with the cylinder is noticeably lighter on the Umarex Colt Python 357. Even the hammer is smoother and has less wiggle, just a better trigger and hammer mechanism overall.

Accuracy: The results I got shooting my 6 round group from a 30 foot out semi rested position where good overall. Vertically there was about a 2 inch spread while horizontally there was about a 1 inch spread. I did find the plastic tips on the brass shells seemed to be a bit tight at first and this is when I did most of my Chronograph and target shooting. I believe the tightness effected the consistency of the FPS which also effected the accuracy especially up and down. I did get one shot out of the Umarex Colt Python 357 well over the claimed 400 fps but again the fps was rather erratic most likely because of the snug BB fit due to shell break-in.

Build Quality: The Umarex Colt Python 357 being mostly metal, you would expect it to have a decent build quality and I am happy to say it does, perhaps again even better than the Dan Wesson and S&W 327 TRR8 shell loading revolvers, even the weight of the Colt Python came in close to a half of a pound more! The only real plastic I could find was in the grips and the shell tips. Fit and finish was also good with no noticeable paint wear or sloppy workmanship.

Realism: The Colt Python 357 CO2 BB Revolver overall is a close copy of the real steel Colt Python 357. I did notice the rear portion of the receiver (between the rear cylinder and hammer) to be a bit longer perhaps to accommodate the CO2 valve length, but other than that this pistol is super close to the original revolver it is based and licensed on. Agin being all metal gives this CO2 BB revolver very realistic weight and feel and the loadable brass shells make using this gun almost exactly like using a real shell loading revolver but for much less cost per shot and of course a lot less recoil on the hands.

Pros:

• It's a revolver with actual shells! Give you the feeling of loading and shooting a real revolver.

• Mostly all metal design.

• lots of detail, well made, fit and finish is very good.

• Good overall weight, heaviest out of all the shell loaders.

• Good overall power, accuracy and shots per CO2.

• Fully adjustable sights for windage and elevation.

• Well hidden CO2 Screw.

• Recessed barrel.

• Nice easy Trigger pull in both single and double action.

Cons:

• Grips are a bit rough.

• All black sights not great on dark backgrounds.

• FPS seemed to fluctuate a bit 

Comments:

The ASG Dan Wesson shell loading revolvers reintroduced me to the joy of loading and shooting a revolver which up until that point was not that realistic of an experience when using a BB or Pellet revolver. The Umarex Colt Python 357 has taken it up a notch by adding just a bit more overall weight, a smother trigger and hammer mechanism and styling this revolver on the Classic Colt Python platform. And all of this for even less than the cost of the original Dan Wesson shell loading series CO2 BB revolvers. If you're a revolver fan, make sure to grab one of these and if you're not a revolver fan, this pistol may just change your mind :)

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex Walther PPS is pretty good overall. This pistol mechanically is very similar to the ASG Bersa BP9CC so it shares a similar trigger system that picks up a BB during the first part of the trigger pull allowing the BB to enter the barrel and then on the second part of the trigger pull the internal hammer is released. The hammer is set in the cocked position from the blowback action so the actual trigger pull is fairly light. You can feel a bit of friction when the BB is being moved into the barrel but it is not drastic. Overall trigger pull length is about medium with a very predictable release point.

Accuracy: I did my pre-test of the Umarex Walther PPS CO2 Blowback BB Pistol from 30 feet back shooting at a paper target using a semi rested position (sand bag up front and standing in the back). My 10 shot grouping was just a bit below the center bulls eye and very well centered left and right All 10 BB's stayed within 2 inches with a nice even spread. The Umarex Walther PPS also shot right around the 360 fps range on this not so warm spring day so I would expect it to hit significantly higher than the claimed 350 fps on hot summer days.

Build Quality: The Umarex Walther PPS for it's rather low retail price is very good quality, again comparable to the ASG Bersa BP9CC since I believe both guns are made in the same factory. Fit is very good, everything works well and the slide has next to no wobble, I especially like the way the allen key is built into the CO2 hatch which allows for no need to a CO2 tab to have to accommodate with a bulkier but plate. The finish is also very nice, I did not see any wear mark appear with use and the plastic used in the frame seems to be very high quality.

Realism: The Umarex Walther PPS BB Pistol is a fully licensed replica of the real steel Walther PPS compact cary pistol. It is an extremely close copy in both looks and feel, has a nice snappy blowback action and has a working slide catch release that hold back when the magazine is empty. The slide movement is shorter than expected but this does allow for better power and CO2 usage, it also would have been nice to have a full size drop out magazine but the stick magazine with it's full size but plate does a nice job of still making this replica Airgun look very believable.

Pros:

• Well priced for what you get in our Canada Store, less cost than the ASG Bersa BP9CC.

• Nice accuracy, power for such a small short barreled pistol.

• Really nice replica of the original Walther PPS and fully licensed.

• Great small size weight and feel to it.

• Fit and finish is very good.

• Decent blowback action for such a small pistol.

• Working slide catch and release.

• Love the built in Allen Key.

• Stick mag hits the CO2 screw nicely. 

Cons:

• Not field strip-able.

• Only partial blowback action.

• Has a stick magazine rather than a full size magazine.

Comments:

I really liked the ASG Bersa BP9CC when I review it because it was such a well rounded gun in a very compact and well built design. The Umarex Walther PPS perhaps exceeds the Bersa BP9CC since it is even more compact, seems to have a bit more blowback recoil while still retaining decent fps and accuracy, and the Umarex PPS has a superior design when it comes to the built in allen key for tightening the CO2. You even get all of this for less cost then the ASG BErsa BP9CC. Don't get me wrong, I would not be without either gun, but if I could only have one it would be the Umarex Walther PPS.

In this Vimeo Update Video Preview I show you around two brand new Umarex CO2 BB pistols, the Umarex Walther PPS and the Umarex Colt Python 357, both recently added to our online Replica Airguns Store.

Umarex added another shell loading revolver to their collection, the fully licensed Colt Python 357 and again this revolver uses CO2 and shoots 4.5mm Steel BB's that are preloaded into 6 included brass shells. Out of all the 4.5mm shell loading revolvers to date, I have to say the Colt Python 357 is the heaviest coming in at just under 3 pounds. The trigger hammer combination is also very smooth and it has a fully adjustable rear sight for windage and elevation.

Trigger Pull: The Single Action Only trigger pull on the KWC Model 75 Tac Blowback BB Pistol is what you would expect from a full blowback, true single action only pistol, it is nice and light with a very short take up and smooth release. If you're looking for a pistol that can shoot accurately and quickly, then look no further!

Accuracy: I did take the opportunity to do a quick Field Test for the KWC Model 75 and I can tell you it shot an average of 325 fps on a not all that warm day and I also got a fairly tight 2 inch 10 shot group form my standard 20 foot rested position. The single action only trigger is nice, short and crisp followed by a snappy hard blowback action.

Build Quality: The KWC Model 75 Tac Blowback BB Pistol is well built being that it is pretty much entirely metal (even the grips), It weighs in at a stout 2.5 pounds so be prepared for a heavier gun, the tolerances are very good with very little slide slop and the seems are virtually non existent on this air pistol, the dark golden brown color is unique but as per typical KWC / Cybergun air pistols, the rather thin powder coating is probe to wearing off on the high spots and metal on metal areas..

Realism: The KWC Model 75 Tac BB Pistol is a stripped down version of the Cybergun - KWC Tanfoglio Gold Custom Blowback BB Pistol I reviewed earlier, basically it is the same gun but with a rear sight and no sight rail or compensator. In terms of functioning and looking like a real gun it has it all, full size drop out metal magazine, full blowback operation, full slide lock back and of course it can be field striped if need be.

Pros:

• All metal construction - Good weight and very solid feeling gun.

• Heavy and snappy blowback action.

• Good fit and finish but the paint does wear off pretty easy.

• Well balanced in the hand, so even with heavy blowback the gun stays on target.

• Light, short and smooth single action trigger, good quick followup shots.

• Fully adjustable rear sight for windage and elevation.

• Easy to load magazine.

• Ambidextrous safety.

Cons:

• Paint does wear off pretty quickly in the high spots and metal on metal areas .

• No white dot sights so may be tuff on dark targets.

• Don't expect a lot of shots per CO2 because of the heavy full blowback but worth it.

Comments:

Overall the KWC Model 75 Tac Blowback BB Pistol is a really nice all metal airgun to shoot, I found it to be really well balanced which allowed me to shoot this blowback BB pistol really quickly and yet stay right on target even with the heavy snappy blowback operation. If you already like the Cybergun - KWC Tanfoglio Gold Custom Blowback BB Pistol I reviewed earlier, but perhaps want something a bit more compact and without the need to add an additional red dot to it then check out the KWC Model 75 Tac.

This may be a bit controversial for some people who don't like the thought of using an gun for hunting or extermination of unwanted pests. But weather or not it is accepted by all, it is a practice that many people still embrace including myself when done in a humane way.

Let's start off by addressing this topic by asking some questions and filling in some of the answers. Keep in mind I go into much more detail in my Vimeo video below.

What is the reason that you need to Shoot or Hunt an Animal?

Are you shooting an animal out of need or just for fun, sure there is a thrill in the sport of hunting but after taking down your prey, the animal should not be killed in vain as the meat should be eaten. There are also times when pesky critters get into your gardens, tree farms, feeding stations garbages and who knows what else? I personally think shooting an animal that has not done you any harm or that you don't plan on eating is not ethical. So question your motives wisely?

Can you use an Airgun for Hunting and or Pest Control?

The short answer is yes! As long as you choose the correct Airgun for the job, one that has enough power and accuracy to get the job done in a humane manner. Using an underpowered or inaccurate gun of any type for the chosen target will lead to the animal being wounded and possibly getting away to suffer unnecessarily.

What about Pistols versus Rifles?

Given the choice, a rifle will always be your best bet, rifles tend to be more accurate since they are more stable to hold and the fact that the sights are further apart which improves the guns accuracy. Most rifles also allow for enhanced sighting systems like red dots or magnified scopes for even further accuracy improvements. There are some pistols made specifically for hunting and target shooting that can be accurate but I would limit their use to shorter ranges.

What about Pellet guns versus BB guns?

BB guns in general are not meant for hunting or pest control, and in most cases they are underpowered and not as accurate as their pellet shooting counterparts, especially out at longer ranges where most pests keep their distances to. If you plan on doing some hunting and or pest control, please invest in an adequate pellet rifle to get the job done humanly.

What type of Ammo is best for Hunting and Pest Control?

There are lots of types of pellets available, pointed, rounded, flat, hollow-point and even pellets that have nylon tips. At the end of the day, use the pellet that is the most accurate in your Airgun because shot placement will win over pellet shape any day of the week. The reality is that as long as that pellet hits the target with adequate velocity, it doesn't matter what shape it is, it's more than likely going to pass right through the animal.

What is the lowest FPS that I can use?

I would rather ask the question, what is the highest fps I can get away with since more fps will give you more margin for error, since it will have a flatter trajectory and will do more damage even if your shot is off a bit. An experienced shooter could make a kill shot on a small pest even with a 400 fps airgun but the shot would have to be perfect and the range would have to be close. Of course when shooting larger game, you will need larger caliber pellets with higher velocities. Also when using a high velocity airgun you need to consider what is beyond your target, if you miss, where is that pellet or bullet going to end up? You need to make sure you do not injure anyone by mistake as pellets/bullets can travel a long distance.

How large of an Animal can an Airguns Kill?

This is really dependent on the Airgun being used, Airguns come in many different calibers, from .177 right up to .50 caliber, some PCP Airguns can even take down a deer! You need to do your research and make sure the Airgun you choose has both the power and accuracy you need for the intend prey.

Where can I use an Airgun for Hunting and or Pest Control?

This is a question you need to ask your local authorities as laws and hunting regulations are different just about everywhere. Even shooting pests on your property may require a permit so be careful to obey your local laws.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex C96 Mauser Legends CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is nice and short with a medium weight trigger pull (around 5-6 pounds) allowing for very quick consecutive shots. Unlike the new Umarex Makarov Ultra and Beretta Mod. 84 FS, the BB magazine chambering is done by the blowback action rather than the first part of the trigger pull which gives the Mauser C96 the best trigger by far out of all three guns.

Accuracy: I tested the Umarex C96 Mauser Legends from 30 feet back shooting at a paper target using a semi rested position (sand bag up front and standing in the back). My 10 shot grouping was just slightly below the center bulls eye and a bit to the right, all 10 BB's stayed within 1.25 inches with most of them grouping closer to a 1 inch group. The Umarex C96 Mauser Legends also got a surprising 390 fps on this not very warm day which was 10 fps over the claimed Umarex Feet per second rating, I can see this CO2 BB pistol hitting over 400 fps on a warm summer day for sure!

Build Quality: Lets get the fact that most of the outside of this CO2 BB pistol is plastic coated, I'm not sure why Umarex went this rout but it isa what it is and I do have to say the plastic looks great, not too glossy and not to flat, the quality seems very good and even though there is a lot of plastic on the outside there is plenty of metal used in the rest of this Replica Legends Umarex Pistol giving it a solid 2 pounds of mass in your hand. You will find it has a metal bolt, trigger, hammer, safety, rear sight, inner barrel and pretty much all of the full size drop out metal magazine which by the way holds the CO2 and the BB's. Fit and finish seems very good.

Realism: The Umarex C96 Mauser Legends CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is not licensed but it still makes for  a fantastic replica of a real steel Mauser C96 Broom-handle or should I say a M1932 / M712 Schnellfeuer which is the version that Umarex based their C96 on. I love all the working parts, the quick snappy blowback, short fast trigger, working safety, hammer and bolt, all combining to make this pistol a very believable Mauser replica pistol.

It's funny how earlier on Umarex came out with the Legends Luger P08 and even though it was pretty much an all metal air pistol, there where very few actual working parts on it, no blowback or even a bolt that functioned. Of course people complained about that, so what did Umarex do this time around... They switched things up completely and made a pretty much all external plastic air pistol but with tons of working parts and full functioning blowback action. So of course Umarex has opened themselves up to more criticism for having too much plastic in the Mauser C96 ;) Even so, this pistol is one to consider picking up, ti really is a very well made CO2 BB pistol regardless of the plastic parts. It's a great replica with awesome blowback action and a super fast trigger, The fps for a blowback gun is on the high side, it shoots dead on and you even get 80+ shots per CO2 all in one of the most unique looking pistols ever made.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex Beretta Mod. 84 FS is fairly long but in term of resistance is about a medium pull, there is no double action so single action only but the pull is longer than most single action triggers to accommodate the BB chamber mechanism on the magazine. Basically a BB is pushed into the breach/barrel during the first half of the trigger pull, then the trigger is released. I did notice a fair bit of friction during teh BB loading stage and it has been recommended to lubricate this area of the magazine to smooth out the trigger pull.

Accuracy: I tested the Umarex Beretta Mod. 84 FS from 30 feet back shooting at a paper target using a semi rested position (sand bag up front and standing in the back). My 10 shot grouping was just a bit above the center bulls eye and very well centered left and right All 10 BB's stayed within 1.5 inches with most of them grouping closer to a 1 inch group. The Umarex Beretta Mod. 84 FS also got a respectable 363 fps on this not super warm day so I would expect it to hit significantly higher than the claimed 360 fps during hot summer weather.

Build Quality: Being a pretty much all metal gun, makes the Umarex Beretta Mod. 84 FS feel solid and sturdy. The only plastic parts on the Umarex 84 FS where the grips and some magazine parts like the CO2 tab. The painted finish is a nice satin black. The fit and finish on this Umarex CO2 Blowback BB pistol is top notch with virtually no slide slop at all.

Realism: The Umarex Beretta Mod. 84 FS is a fully licensed replica of the real steel Beretta Model 84 FS. It is an extremely close copy in both looks and feel, has a nice snappy blowback action and field strips just like a real Beretta 84 FS. You'll also find a full size drop out magazine that holds the CO2 and BB's and a working slide catch/release that locks back when the magazine is empty.

Umarex really came through on this one, perhaps they are listening to their customers more and more because time and time again we ask for the same things over and over again with our Replica Airguns: Metal parts where metal would be found on the real steel version, blowback operation for that realistic kick and single action trigger ability, a full size drop out magazine that holds the BB's and CO2, ability to field strip again like the original version, a recessed barrel so it does not look like a toy gun or a better way of saying it... make it just like the real steel version but have it shoot BB's :) I think Umarex got most everything covered with their new Umarex Beretta Mod. 84 FS CO2 Blowback BB Pistol.

It is a very close copy in both looks and feel, has a very heavy blowback action and field strips just like a real Makarov. You'll also find a full size drop out magazine that holds the CO2 and BB's and a working slide catch/release that locks back when the magazine is empty.

Umarex really addresses the majority of the shortcomings found on the original non-blowback 4.5mm Steel BB shooting Makarov. They added the much asked for blowback operation, made the slide catch/release operational, upgraded the magazine to a full size drop out CO2 and BB magazine, gave it a more realistic paint job and even replaced the plastic safety with a metal safety. The only tradeoff is the loss of the short take up single action trigger and perhaps a few fps. All in all a big improvement over the first version which even today is still a very good BB pistol.

Some "not so new" CO2 Blowback 4.5mm Steel BB Pistols from Umarex, but still popular Replica BB guns that have received a lot of attention and to be honest have to date not had a real "proper" Field Test. So why not put the Umarex SA177 and Umarex HPP side by side for yet another installment of Head to Head Shootouts!

Right off the bat I have to say that one of these very fine Blowback Air Pistols has been retired by Umarex. Word on the street is that some suits from a company that sell real steel semi auto pistols that kind of share a similarity to the Umarex SA177 may have applied some pressure to Umarex and somehow the mold got broken and guess what... No more Umarex SA177's :(

On a positive note, you can still get the Umarex HPP which in my opinion was always a better shooter with a much heavier and snappier blowback along with a very smooth trigger. And yes we have it the HPP for sale in our Canada and US Replica Airguns Stores.

Getting back to this Field Test Head to Head Shootout for the Umarex SA177 and HPP CO2 Blowback 4.5mm Steel BB Pistols. I tested them both out on the Chronograph shooting 5 rounds in each gun using a brand new 12 gram CO2 in combination with 5.1 grain Umarex Zinc Coated Steel BB's. The SA177 average a bit higher at 395 fps while the HPP came in just a hair lower at a respectable 372 fps average.

In terms of accuracy from 30 feet out using a semi rested position (sand bag in the front, standing in the back), Both guns wanted to shoot just a bit to the left and they both had a definite internal tighter group that was about 1.5 inches with some strays that came outside opening the groups up to around 3 inches or so. Both BB Air Pistols worked flawlessly with no problems, again the Umarex HPP for me was more enjoyable to shoot with it's heavy blowback and lighter trigger over the SA177. You can also expect to get around 100 or even more shots out of a single CO2 cartridge.

I was waiting for a magazine for my ASG STI Duty One 1911 to show up so I could finally do this "Head to Head" Field Test Shooting Review Video for the ASG STI Duty One versus the ASG CZ 75 P-07 Duty versus the ASG Bersa BP9cc. All of which are Blowback CO2 4.5mm Steel BB pistols.

This Shooting Field Test went fairly well and all guns performed as expected, I did have one slide lock back on a loaded magazine with my ASG STI Duty One 1911 and one failure to lock back on the last shot with my ASG Bersa BP9cc, but it did eventually lock back.

During the Chronograph 5 shot per pistol test I got fairly similar fps from all three guns with the STI Duty One getting the highest of 372 average fps, the Bersa BP9cc getting runner up with 353 average fps and the CZ 75 P-07 Duty trailing the field just a bit with a 346 average fps.

During the target portion of this Field Test Shooting Review from 30 feet back in a semi rested position, again the pistols shot fairly similarly with all of them getting pretty close to 2-3 inch groupings. I did have a double shot right after my slide lock back on the STI Duty One as I pressed the trigger twice, once when the slide was locked back and again when I released it, this chambered two BB's into the barrel making the gun shoot a bit low for that double shot. With that negative one against the STI Duty One 1911, I did however find it the most pleasing to shoot! It had the best blowback action and the smoothest trigger, plus I just like holding and sighting in 1911's :)

The CZ 75 P-07 had the next hardest blowback with the Bersa BP9cc coming in second in the trigger department. All of these CO2 blowback BB pistols should get somewhere around 100+ shots pre CO2 if you take your time a bit between reloading magazines.

My last CO2 Blowback 4.5mm Steel BB Pistol Field Test Review from my latest acquisitions of New Umarex Air pistols. For many people that already liked the Umarex Makarov CO2 BB pistol, the Umarex Legends Makarov blowback version may just have everything you where looking for that was missing from version One? Well let's see... It has blowback - check! It has a working slide catch/release - check! It has a full size dropout metal magazine - check! And it's still all metal, field strip-able and has single a single action trigger!

Sounds pretty good so far... So how does the Umarex Makarov Ultra CO2 Blowback 4.5mm Steel BB Pistol shoot? Well like the other new Umarex CO2 Blowback BB pistols I just tested, the Beretta 84 FS and the Mauser C96, I was not disappointed.

As per usual, I tested the Umarex Makarov Ultra out shooting 5 rounds through my Chronograph with a new CO2 to find out the real world fps performance. Umarex claims 350 fps and I got pretty close to this at an average of 333 fps and I would have to say the temperature was no more than 10-15 Degrees Celsius (50-60 Fahrenheit) so there is definite room for improvement on a warmer day.

Next I stepped back 30 feet and shot 10 rounds at my paper target using a semi rested position (Standing in the back, rested on a sand bag in the front). After review of the video I noticed that the first shot was a double shot and both of these rounds hit a bit to the right compared to the remaining single shots, so my grouping ended up being more of a 2 inch group rather than a 1.5 inch group when discarding the double shot from this test.

I have to say I really like shooting the Umarex Legends Series Makarov Ultra, it has really solid blowback, a pretty decent single action trigger even if it is a bit long travel. I also found the accuracy to be very respectable from 30 feet out and the fps even though it could be a bit higher is more than enough for plinking purposes. And all of this from a really eye catching all metal licensed Makarov replica. Another nice Legends Series CO2 BB pistol from Umarex.

Today I bring to you my shooting field test for my second new Umarex Blowback 4.5mm CO2 BB Pistol and this one is part of the Legends Series, it's called the "Pistol C96" and is a variant of the Mauser C96, all though more so like the M1932 or M712 Schnellfeuer. The Umarex version is not licensed but none the less is a very good replica with lots of working parts including the blowback metal bolt, metal hammer, metal safety and adjustable metal rear sight. The single action only trigger is also metal along with the internal barrel and full size drop out metal magazine giving this otherwise all external plastic gun good overall weight of around 2 pounds.

Getting to the performance aspect of the Umarex C96 Mauser CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistol, I can say it is even more fun to shoot than admire it's beauty! I first put 5 rounds through my Chronograph hoping to get somewhere near the 380 fps claimed rating and actually exceeded it with an average of 390 fps even on this slightly cool day.

Lately I have been stepping back to my 30 foot mark even for pistol field tests and so I tested the Legends Mauser C96 with 10 rounds at 30 feet out using a semi rested position and got a very respectable 1.25 inch shot group. I did have to adjust the rear sight up a few notches to get it a centered on the target but it is very easy to do on the fly with this Replica Blowback BB pistol.

I am very impressed with the single action only trigger on the Umarex C96, it is nice and short and not too heavy with a predictable release, combine that with a very snappy fast blowback and you have yourself a very quick shooter on your hands! You can expect to get somewhere around 100 shots per CO2 and this gun is very backyard friendly as it is one of the quieter CO2 BB guns I have tested.

Yes there is a a lot of plastic on the outside but everything else is awesome about this pistol so don't let a few molecules turn you off of this little treasure...
