Gun Safeties generally are going to be similar for all types of guns, so Safeties used with Airguns are often the same types as used with Real Steel Guns. Some guns will have no Safeties at all while other guns many have multiple Safeties on them. In this informative video I go over six of the more common types of Gun Safeties used in Real Steel Guns and Air Guns.

I sometimes mention in my review videos that a gun is either Full Blowback or Partial Blowback and some people may not understand exactly what this means and how it effects the Airguns Blowback Action and Performance so I figured it would be best to make a dedicated video talking about the differences and also some of the Pro’s and Con’s of each type of Blowback Action.

In the video I obviously go into a fair amount of detail and show you around each type of Airgun and Magazine as they do differ a fair amount but to summaries for you here in this written form, the main difference is going to be how much the slide moves back and forth. With Full Blowback Airguns the slide will move much longer back and forth on the frame of the Airgun much like a real gun does and the slide Catch/Lock generally locks back further too. With a Partial Blowback Airgun the slide generally has a shorter range of movement back and forth on the frame with the slide locks usually about half of the distance compared to a Full Blowback Airgun.

The magazines are also very different as a Full Blowbacks Airgun generally has a partially exposed BB which is pushed into the barrel by the nozzle with each slide cycle. With a Partial Blowback Airgun the BB is generally not exposed and either the trigger action or simply the CO2 force is required to transfer the BB in the breach of the Airgun.

Another point to mention is that Full Blowback Airguns tend to use more CO2 and have a slightly lower velocity as compared to Partial Blowback Airguns but this is not a rule.

There are many types of magazines used in Airguns and some of this is dependent on the ammunition used.

For instance a stacked type of magazine often used for Steel BB and Airsoft can not be used for Pellets as pellets tend to deform when stacked in such a way since there is no metal casting protecting them from mashing into each other.

So what type of magazines do we generally see in Airguns? The most common Airgun magazines are as follows:

Simple Stick Magazine

• Mostly used with Steel BB but also found in some Airsoft Airguns.

• Some Pellet Airguns use a type of stick magazine with a rotary magazine on each end.

• Used in non-blowback and blowback Airguns.

• Can be made from plastic or steel or a combination of both materials.

Full Size Drop Out Magazine

• Used with Steel BB and Airsoft guns.

• Generally you will find these types magazines hold both the BB’s and CO2.

• Used in non-blowback and blowback Airguns.

• Commonly used with Airsoft Rifles in mid to high capacity.

• Can be made from plastic or steel or a combination of both materials.

Rotary magazine

• Used with Steel BB, Airsoft and Pellet Airguns.

• Used in non-blowback and blowback Airguns.

• Can be made from plastic or steel.

• Can often use mixed ammo types as in both 4.5mm Steel BB and .177 caliber pellet.

Belt Fed Magazine

• Like rotary magazine belt fed magazine can accommodate Steel BB, Pellet and Airsoft but are most often used with Pellet Airguns.

• Usually found in a full size magazine that also holds the CO2.

• Used in non-blowback and blowback Airguns.

• Can be made from plastic or steel or a combination of both materials.

Internal Magazine

• Used with Steel BB, Airsoft.

• Can have a hopper built in hat feeds a spring fed magazine.

• Usually found in lesser expensive Airguns but not a rule.

In this two part video series I compare several Air Pistols to each other to find out what type of round has the most power and accuracy. The guns I use for this not so scientific test are the KWC Model DE /50 Desert Eagle CO2 Blowback 6mm Plastic Airsoft Pistol, the EKOL ES 55 CO2 4.5mm Steel BB Pistol, the Umarex Magnum Research Desert Eagle Blowback CO2 .177 Caliber Pellet Pistol and the Umarex T4E TR50 CO2 .50 Caliber Paintball Pistol.

For this Video 2 Accuracy Test I shoot all of the above listed Airguns at a paper target setup 30 feet down range using a semi rested shooting position with my hands resting on a sand bag up front and seated on a stool in the back. It’s not perfect but works well enough. I didn’t take a ton of time with each gun since there where 4 to shoot in this Field Test Shooting Video so accuracy may have been a bit better if I took a little more time with each gun.

In Video 2 I test the power and penetration of each Airgun option shooting at a pop can, a soup can and a toilet paper roll so make sure to watch that video if you have not already watched it.

In this two part video series I compare several Air Pistols to each other to find out what type of round has the most power and accuracy. This will help bring the ultimate impact of the national handgun freeze into force sooner. This temporary ban means that individuals and businesses will no longer be able to import handguns into Canada, subject to narrow exceptions that mirror those in Bill C-21. These restrictions will take effect on

August 19th, 2022, and will last until the national freeze comes into force. No single program or initiative can tackle the challenge of gun violence on its own. That is why Bill C-21 and the national freeze on handguns are two of the many elements in the Government’s comprehensive plan to keep Canadians safe. This begins at our borders, where we’ve added resources to fight smuggling and stop guns from coming into Canada. We’re also investing in prevention programs to tackle the root causes of gun crime and stop it before it starts. Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the G&G Piranha SL GBB Airsoft Pistol is typical single action only with a super easy short take up (some of which is the trigger safety engaging), followed by a crisp predictable light release. Build Quality: Like pretty much all G&G Airsoft guns including the Piranha series, the G&G Piranha SL GBB Airsoft Pistol build quality is really good. Fit and finish are excellent with virtually zero slide wiggle, I like the two tone stainless slide and chrome finish barrel version but the all black looks really good too. As with the entire Piranha line, the SL also has an updated Ceramic Whirl Cylinder Valve technology from G&G that should significantly help with freezing in colder or fast shooting situations along with a new Hop-up system you can easily adjust without taking the Airsoft gun apart by using the bullet shaped tool.

Realism: The G&G Piranha SL GBB Airsoft Pistol as far as I can determines not an exact replica of any specific real steel gun in production but it does share its looks and feel to that of the Glock but perhaps with an even more modernized look to it. Of course the SL version is elongates. You will find realistic function to the G&G Piranha SL GBB Airsoft Pistoling terms of it’s operation with its full blowback action, working slide catch release, magazine release trigger safety and takedown lever allowing for it to be field stripped easily.

Comments:

The G&G Piranha SL GBB Airsoft Pistol is for sure the flashiest version of the Piranha series of G&G Airsoft Pistols with its extended barrel and extended magazine with the fake bullets. I also imagine the extra barrel length will add some addition fps to the velocity and we will find out when I make my Field Test Shooting Video for it shortly. I am hoping the extended magazine holds more than an addition 5 rounds but again we are going to find out in my my Field Test Video so be sure to watch that one! If you don’t mind the additional bulk of the G&G Piranha SL GBB Airsoft Pistol over the MK 1 and TR than you will get an extra magazine and I a bit higher velocity.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on Umarex T4E Glock 17 Gen5 CO2 .43 Cal. Paintball Pistol feels a lot like a double action trigger mainly because when you pull the trigger the inner barrel travels backwards into the magazine placing a paintball round in the barrel which seals the barrel with the magazine so less CO2 is wasted. This does make the trigger a little bit longer and heavier than a single action trigger. The internal hammer/striker is engaged from the blowback action reducing the friction on the trigger. In terms of it being similar to a Glock trigger pull it will be a bit heavier and longer but not bad overall.

Build Quality: The build quality of the Umarex T4E Glock 17 Gen5 CO2 .43 Cal. Paintball Pistol is really very good, metal parts are where you would expect them, the slide, slide catch, barrel, magazine and most internal parts giving the Umarex T4E Glock 17 Gen5 CO2 .43 Cal. Paintball Pistol a solid 1.6 pound overall weight with the magazine in. The fit and finish is also very good with virtually no slide wiggle to be found.

Realism: The Umarex T4E Glock 17 Gen5 CO2 .43 Cal. Paintball Pistol is a licensed Glock Replica via Umarex which owns the licensing so you will find Glock licensing and branding throughout this Paintball Pistol. Just looking at the Umarex T4E Glock 17 Gen5 CO2 .43 Cal. Paintball Pistol you would find it hard to tell the difference between it and the real steel Glock 17 Gen5 but there are some notable differences as in the length of the slide travel which is about half of what you would expect from a real Glock. This is to account for the obvious internal differences to allow for CO2 and paintballs to be used. Overall the Umarex T4E Glock 17 Gen5 CO2 .43 Cal. Paintball Pistol would make a great training pistol if you are a Glock owner and want to use the closest gun to it.

• Trigger is a bit heavy, not as light as a real Glock, more of a double action trigger in function.

The Umarex T4E Glock 17 Gen5 CO2 .43 Cal. Paintball Pistol is another great addition to the Replica Paintball Pistol options out there and if you are a Glock owner looking for a training gun you can use for some additional trigger time outside of a gun range or want to perform realistic training exercises with live players then the Umarex T4E Glock 17 Gen5 CO2 .43 Cal. Paintball Pistol will fill this need. I am looking forward to testing it out when I make My Field Test Shooting Video as Umarex claims it to have significantly higher fps (350-400) then some of the other replica T4E Paintball guns I have reviewed so far. Trigger Pull: The Single action only trigger pull on the Sig Sauer 1911 Emperor Scorpion Blowback CO2 BB Pistol is typical of what you will find on a KWC Blowback 1911, and that’s a good thing since it is short light and crisp similar to a real 1911 semi auto pistol.

Accuracy: I haven’t done my official field test shooting video so I can not comment exactly on how well this version of the KWC 1911 series will perform, but since I havre reviewed many similar versions of the KWC 1911, it should shoot similarly. That said I hope to expect a velocity around 300-330 fps and a 10 shot grouping between 1.5 and 2.5 inches.

Build Quality: The Sig Sauer 1911 Emperor Scorpion Blowback CO2 BB Pistol like the other KWC 1911 Blowback BB Pistols has in a sense been perfected over time as the Original Tanfoglio Witness 1911 I Review came out over a decade ago and although it did have a few problems at first with the safety it all got worked out in the end and versions today are well made and reliable. As with all Airguns the metals used are not firearms grade quality so you do need to be a bit more careful with them but if you do you will get years of use out of them.

Realism: The Sig Sauer 1911 Emperor Scorpion Blowback CO2 BB Pistol is a lsenced replica of the real steel Sig Sauer 1911 Emperor Scorpion 45 ACP and from looking at photos on line or the Sig Sauer 45 APC version it is virtually identical in a appearance other than the hammer which on the 45 ACP version seems to have a larger and more oval skeletonized opening. That’s pretty minor in the scheme of things. As this is a full blowback Air Pistol, the mechanical functions mimic the real steal version very well and as expected you can even fully field strip this BB Pistol.

Every time a new Blowback 1911 Airgun comes out I seem to say this one is my new favorite and well here we go again… Not only do I like 1911’s I also really like Sigs. I also seem to be a fan of town tone guns as it makes the parts on the gun really stand out in contrast to each other and I like that look. So when you put all of these things together it makes for a real winner in my books. With so many Blowback 1911 choices out there it is hard to make up ones mind, I would consider the Sig Sauer 1911 Emperor Scorpion Blowback CO2 BB Pistol to be in the top 3 for sure!

I know this is an Airgun channel but when I get something that I feel my audience would be interested I in, I generally share it with everyone. I know many Airgun enthusiasts are interested in Airguns for a few reasons like the lower cost to buy and operate, the fact that there are more situations where you can shoot an Airgun and perhaps availability of these guns in terms of purchasing them without a license and laws pertaining to overall size, barrel lengths, magazine capacities and the likes. My latest acquisition does tick some of these boxes for sure.

My latest “Birthday” purchase was the GSG-16 which is a 22LR rimefire rifle made by www.GermanSportGuns.com and it is sort of an MP5 copy but this version is more like a Frankenstein version of an MP5 combined with an AR-15 in order to make H&K happy. Previous version of the GSG-16 (the GSG-5 and GSG-522) where too similar to the MP5 and so GSG had to make a third version less MP5-ish.

That said the GSG-16 has all the same controls as the MP5 so for training purposes it would be very suitable. Personally I like what GSG did in order to bring the GSG-16 to market without legal ramifications from H&K. I like all the rails and the way it kind of looks a bit more like an AR-15 even if the controls are not the same.

If you do like the MP5 look there are some kits out there for the GSG-16 to turn it back into more of an MP5 looking rifle but for me I don’t need to spend the extra money to be happy with the GSG-16.

No we do not have this item in our Replica Airguns Stores as we really only cater to guns that do not require any sort of lisenceing or permits. The closest thing you can buy I would say would be either the Umarex HK MP5-PDW CO2 BB Rifle, one of the MP5 Airsoft Rifles we have or even the Crosman MPW Blowback CO2 BB Rifle which is more AR based.

This was an unusual Field Test Review for me to do as I really don’t test out Bows or Crossbows all that much and I don’t have the best backstop setup for doing such reviews. So I spent some time making a backstop that was capable of stopping these just over 6 inch almost 10 gram or 150 grain bolts. It required some layers of foam and cardboard along with a blanket behind just in case, and even with this setup the bolts managed to lodge themselves right up to the Fletching (feather part of the arrow). Also make sure to watch my Table Top Video Review for the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow to see it up nice and close and get all the specifications and features.

I kind of wanted to change up this review just a bit and so I recorded my Chronograph Velocity at the same time as I did my Target or Accuracy Test to simplify things. I used 5 bolts in all and got what I felt was a good result using the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow.

In terns of velocity Bear X claims that the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow will shoot around 175 fps. I was able to get consistent 190+ fps readings using the 147 grain 6.5 inch aluminum bolts with my lowest fps being 192 and the highest being 194 so super consistent. This gave an overall Foot Pound energy of 12.4 foot pounds! This is enough for small pests for sure, it really comes down to accuracy at this point as you will want to get either a head or shoulder area shot for a humane kill.

I did do a pre test to make sure I was on target and duding this test I was able to get about a 5 inch 5 shot grouping. During my recored Accuracy Test this did open up a bit as one arrow went high and to the right so if I leave that arrow out of the test I did manage to get another 5 inch grouping with three of the arrows all within 1.5 inches of each otter. I figure with high quality arrows and some practice time using the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow, you should be able to use it for small pest control at least at closer in ranges.

All in all the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow surprised me with how powerful it really was and with the accuracy using standard default bolts. This is for sure not a toy and you would never want to accidentally shoot this at someone as it could cause a very serious injury or even death and I mean that since these arrow would for sure pierce several inches into the body. Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow is medium to heavy, it is a single action only trigger as you need ot cock the bow in order for the trigger to be engaged. The safety is also engaged when you cock the bow requiring you to take the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow off safe before shooting as an added layer of safety.

Accuracy: I have not made my Field Test Shooting Video for the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow and so I have not sea what to expect for it. I have watched a few videos of other people reviewing it and it looks to perform fairly well but until I get a few bolts in a target downrange I can not say for certain the accuracy of the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow. I will have to figure out some sort of a usable back stop in order to make this Field Test Shooting Video but have some ideas already on material to use as my back stop. FPS is claimed ot be around 175 and I will be doing my best to Chronograph the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow so we can confirm that rating for ourselves…

Build Quality: The Bear X Desire XL Crossbow is actually made pretty decently, yes it is mostly plastic and light weight but feels sturdy enough to hold, the only real metal I can confirm is the cocking rail, mostly everything else other than the nuts and bolts that hold it together are some sort of plastic, the bow itself may be a composite material but I am not sure what exactly it is?

Realism: The Bear X Desire XL Crossbow is not a Replica as is what I usually review here on the channel. But I think their is a crossover in terms of interest for a product like this with people that are also interested in airguns. I know I like the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow and can see a place for it in my collection even if it’s not a replica product.

Comments:

The Bear X Desire XL Crossbow is an interesting product that once purchased and if you manage to not lose the bolts will cost virtually nothing to shoot since you can reuse the bolts all day long given you shoot them on target and that target does not damage the bolts. It may not offer the rapid fire action shooting of a replica semi auto CO2 Pistol but still challenges the shooter in terms of getting the best possible accuracy out of it and at the end of the day trigger time is trigger time! If you are looking for something a bit different than your CO2 Air Gun then maybe the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow will fill that requirement.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Crosman A4-P CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun is single action only since the charging handle must be cocked first before you can shoot it. The trigger is short and fairly light as you would expect from an AR type trigger action. The real fun happens with the Crosman A4-P CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun when you switch it over to full auto mode and with just one pull and hold of the trigger you empty the 25 round magazine in mere seconds. You may want to pickup the Crosman High Capacity magazine if you plan on doing a lot fo full auto shooting!

Accuracy: I have not made my Field Test Shooting Video just yet but you can checkout my Field Test Shooting Video for the Crosman R1 CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun which is a very similar product to the Crosman A4-P CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun. I test out the Crosman R1 CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun using my Chronograph where I get an average of 385 fps and a nice 30 foot grouping of right around 1 inch in semi out and a decently tight full auto group of about 3-4 inches. We should expect about the same with the Crosman A4-P CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun as long as not being able to shoulder it is a big factor?

Build Quality: The Crosman A4-P CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun is well made all around just like the rest of the Crosman AR series of BB Machine Guns. Weighing in at 5.3 pounds without any add on accessories it feel solid and well built. There is a lot of metal going on inside and out of this rifle but keep in mind the top and bottom receiver are plastic with metal parts where they need to be like in the internals, pretty much all the working parts are metal, the magazine is full metal, the buffer tub is metal, charging handle, selector switch, magazine release, bolt release, trigger and of course the barrel is metal.

Realism: The Crosman A4-P CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun is about as real as you are going to get in a CO2 Blowback AR/M4 styled Airgun. You can even take it apart and split the top and bottom receivers like the real steal version. The blowback action gives you some recoil but more importantly offers a true single action trigger and of course the full auto ability we all love. Almost all the working parts work like they would on a real AR / M4 other than the forward assist which is moulded into the receiver. Keep in mind this is the pistol version but like other AR styled “Pistols” the buffer tube area is still required to make the action work.

Comments:

The Crosman A4-P CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun is really pretty much the same as the Crosman DPMS SBR and Crosman MPW and Crosman R1 CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun with more or less Cosmetic changes, most notably being the lack of a butt stock and being more of the pistol version. Like the otters Crosman AR products, the Crosman A4-P CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun has an AR compatible pistol grip, adn like the Crosman R1 CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun you also have the ability to change out the flash hider, you can even put a mock suppression on in it if you choose to. No matter which of the Crosman AR Full Auto CO2 BB Rifles you chooses to get they are mechanically every similar and share most of the same parts. If you want the most compact version than the Crosman A4-P CO2 Blowback BB Machine Gun is the way to go!

First up is the Umarex Ruger Mark IV Spring Piston Pellet Pistol which is a single shot replica pellet pistol that shoots .177 caliber pellets at up to 320 fps using a spring piston break barrel system. The Umarex Ruger Mark IV Spring Piston Pellet Pistol is a target plinker with fully adjustable fiber optic sights and should be a lot of fun to shoot!

Next I take a look at a Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol from Action Army that closely resembles the Ruger Mark IV pistol with perhaps a more compact look. The Action Army AAP-01 GBB Airsoft Pistol is full blowback a full size drop out magazine and fiber optic sights. It also come with a threaded barrel and barrel extension for adding a longer barrel and much suppressor.

Next on my list of new items is the Bear X Desire XL Crossbow which is a 2.2 pound compact bolt shooting crossbow that sports a rail system with included adjustable iron sights that also allow for a red dot if you want to really customize it. The Bear X Desire XL Crossbow has a 60 pound draw and shoots arrows/bolts at up to 175 fps.

Another AR BB Rifle/Pistol from Crosman is the Crosman A4-P Full Auto CO2 BB Pistol which is essentially a pistol version of the AR Platform. If you like the Crosman DPMS SBR, R1, PDW then you will probably also like the Crosman AP-4. Like the others it uses dual CO2’s and shoots 4.5mm Steel BB;s in semi or full auto at 1400 rounds per minute until the 25 round magazine is empty.

Last included in this preview video is the Air Venturi Avenger Regulated PCP Pellet Rifle. I’m a bit uncertain about this one as I am pretty sure it is the non detuned PAL version that requires a firearms license here in Canada as it shoots at full velocity (.22 caliber pellet at 950 fps). If that’s the case then it will not be available in our Canada Replica Airguns Store but may be available in the US Replica Airguns Store. If it is the detuned version or a detuned version becomes available in Canada then I imagine we will at some point have it in the Canada replica Airguns Store. That said the Air Venturi Avenger Regulated PCP Pellet Rifle uses compressed air and shoots either .177. .22 or .25 caliber pellets using a latch system and rotary magazine.
