Day One of the SHOT Show 2012!

The SHOT Show is out of this world! You really need a week to check it all out or perhaps a clone of yourself... I barely touched the surface today. I did make sure I had a chance to checkout both Umarex and Crosman, I also made it to some other booths, but I will touch on them later in another post. There is enough information I can share with you from Crosman and Umarex to keep you drooling for now.

In short, here is what is new...

Crosman is bringing back the C51 Glock inspired Blowback BB pistol that we all thought was dead and I have to say it looks really really nice - more to come on this one. Crosman also has the new C*TT BB pistol that looks to be a blowback pistol replica of the Russian Tokarev. I also saw a very nice looking two tone version of the M4-177 and there may just be a Canadian detuned under 500 fps version on the way? Crosman is also introducing a really well made Nitro Piston air pistol called the Benjamin Trail NP that looks to be a very well made break barrel spring piston air pistol that shoots in the 500 fps neighbourhood.

Umarex also had some new items, one of which at first glance looks a lot like the Crosman C41 P38 replica but I have to say it has more going for it with a locking slide, licensed trade marks, true single action and overall just a more realistic version of the real P38. Umarex is also bringing the Smith & Wesson 327 TRR8 BB Revolver to North America, which is very similar to the Dan Wesson line but with extra rails on the top and bottom of the barrel. Umarex is also adding a couple Browning based air guns, one is a low fps Browning Buck Mark copy which is a break barrel .177 caliber pellet shooter targeted for the beginner target shooter and also a Browning High Power replica. One last BB pistol many people have been asking for is the Beretta 90 Two BB pistol and it looks like it has landed in North America finally!

Make sure to check back for some more photos and more info on all these guns...

Trigger Action Explained - SAO - DAO - Single & Double Action

I have found one of the more confusion aspects of guns is what defines the trigger action, and I confused this a lot at first but now feel I have a good understanding of what makes a gun Single Action Only, Double Action Only or Single and Double Action.

Your best bet is to watch my attached Vimeo video as it not only describes trigger actions but also has the added benefit of the visual examples of each type of trigger action.

Here is a very quick explanation of what constitutes each type of trigger action:

First off the action is based on the role of the trigger in how it effects the action, not how the slide or the hammer can effect the action of the gun.

A Single Action Only gun does one action (a single action) and that is generally the releasing of the hammer or striker or what have you... Single Action Only guns can not fire without first manually pre-cocking the external hammer or manually pulling the slide or charging handle back first to chamber a round and also pre-cock the action of the gun. Keep in mind that the blowback of the slide or bolt in semi and full auto guns effectively cocks the action of the gun allowing for single action trigger release.

A Double Action Only gun performs dual functions, the pre-cocking of the hammer or striker in the first stage and the releasing of the hammer or striker in the second stage, therefore performing two actions. Double Action Only guns do not have the ability to pre-cock the hammer or striker fully and therefore generally have a heavier trigger pull as the first stage of the trigger is to cock the sprung hammer or internal action.

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

Single and Double Action guns have the ability to do both, meaning they can be pre-cocked and then fired or fired without pre-cocking simply by pulling the trigger.

Keep in mind that there are some guns that fall in to their own category, take for example the Glock. Glock has been known to actually describer their guns as Double Action Only, when in fact they can not be fired without the slide first being pulled back to partially pre-cock the internal striker - similar to a single action gun. But when you pull the trigger on a Glock you do not simply release the action but rather the trigger first pulls the striker action back the final stage in order to release it, similar to a double action gun.

Again, watch my Vimeo video as I hope the visuals will help you to understand the differences between Single Action Only, Double Action Only and Single and Double Action trigger.

New Crosman M417 M4 Styled Pneumatic Air Rifle

Crosman just made a press announcement for their latest M417 Pneumatic Air Rifle which looks a lot like an M4 assault rifle.

Although it looks like a semi auto, under the hood is a multi-pump pneumatic system that requires pumping between shots, you can pump just a few times or several to get right up to 625 fps with 7.9 grain pellets so I am assuming this one is not coming to the Canadian market in it's current configuration. By the way you can also shoot BB's by loading up to 350 into the BB reservoir located on the side of the receiver, while an 18 round track feeds the BB's for shooting.

Some other interesting points to mention are the adjustable rear stock and windage adjustable, dual aperture (2-position), flip rear sight, and elevation adjustable front sight that can also be removed entirely for alternative sighting like a red dot or scope.

The Crosman M417 - M4 styled pellet and BB rifle uses a polymer stock, receiver and forearm and sports tactical rails for mounting accessories in several locations. MSRP is right around $119.

Here 's to hoping for a Canadianized version some time in the near future...

UMAREX S&W M&P 45 SPECIFICATIONS AND PHOTOS

Sorry, I only have the one photo I could find of the Umarex Smith & Wesson M&P 45. This CO2 pistol shoots both BB's and Pellets and looks like it uses some of the design elements from other rotary magazine Umarex guns like the CPSport and CP88. Again I am not sure if the slide is metal or plastic because of the lower weight factor?

Specifications:

  • Uses 12 gram CO2
  • 4.5mm steel BB's and .177 caliber pellets
  • 380 fps
  • Double action
  • 8 rounds
  • 1.37 Pounds
  • Picatinny Rail

Guess we'll have to see when it gets here?

Specifications:

  • Uses 12 gram CO2
  • 4.5mm steel BB's
  • 427 fps
  • Double action
  • 8 rounds
  • 1.1 Pounds
  • Mostly Plastic?
  • Picatinny Rail under barrel

Umarex S&W 327 TRR8 SPECIFICATIONS AND PHOTOS

I don't have too much in the way of specification for the Umarex S&W 327 TRR8 but I can say it pretty much looks like an ASG Dan Wesson that has been re-skinned! Something I found a bit funny with this gun si that it is supposed to be a TRR8 replica, and the real S&W 327 TRR8 is an 8 shooter and the Umarex copy is a 6 shooter! Maybe they though nobody would notice?

Specifications based on Photos and similar Dan Wesson:

  • Uses 12 gram CO2
  • 4.5mm steel BB's
  • 400-450 fps
  • Single & double action
  • 6 rounds
  • 2.25 - 2.5 Pounds
  • All metal
  • Picatinny Rail top and bottom
  • Red Dot Scope accessory
  • Fore grip accessory

Umarex Smith & Wesson M&P 45 BB and Pellet CO2 Pistol

UmarexAir released a SHOT Show YouTube video of their new replica BB and Pellet CO2 Airgun pistol styled after the Smith & Wesson M&P 45. Like Umarex's brand new Walther PPQ CO2 Pistol, the M&P 45 also utilizes a two magazine system with an 8 round capacity, one in black plastic for the BB's and one in silver metal for pellets. This air pistol looks to share many similarities with the CP99 and CPSport in design.

UmarexAir just released a YouTube video showcasing their latest replica Walther PPQ BB and Pellet CO2 Pistol introduced at the SHOT Show. It come with two 8 shot rotary magazines, one in black that is used for BB's and one in sliver for the pellets. I am assuming the black one is made out of plastic and the silver magazine is made out of metal. It also looks like the PPQ has an all metal top slide and uses a similar deign to the Umarex Walther CP99 and CPSport CO2 pellet pistols.

Umarex Introduces Three New Replica Air Pistols - PPQ - S&W M&P 45 - S&W M&P R8 Revolver

Related Posts:

Umarex introduced a few new Airguns at the SHOT show this week, two of them (the PPQ and S&W M&P 45) look to be BB/Pellet shooters that house a rotary magazine within the slide (similar to the Umarex Walther CPSport). From the closeup picture of the Umarex Walther PPQ, it looks like it is going to retail for around $70! I wonder if it has as much metal as teh other Umarex products similar in design?

I'm not sure if the Umarex Smith & Wesson M&P 45 BB/Pellet shooter uses a rotary magazine like the PPQ but I would bet money it does.

And lastly Umarex has introduced a new BB Air Gun Revolver, the Smith & Wesson R8 BB Revolver. Judging by the photo, I'd have to say it looks a bit like they used similar ideas you'd find in the Dan Wesson CO2 Air pistol.

Source info/photos came from this link.

If any of you have any more photos or info on these guns please send them in an I will update this post!

Crosman Introduces the C51 Blowback 4.5mm CO2 BB Pistol

Crosman introduced the Crosman C51, their latest Blowback CO2 BB pistol in 4.5mm - .177 caliber. It looks a lot like a Glock or perhaps the Umarex SA177, nevertheless it looks like a nice gun!

I don't have too much on it just yet for specifications other than it takes up to 20 - 4.5mm steel BB's, uses a standard 12 gram CO2 cartridge, and of course is a blowback operated gun with a metal slide and polymer frame.

I'll let you know more when I know more...

Cybergun - KWC Mini UZI BB Gun Full Auto Modification

Related Posts:

"Before you attempt to do this modification you need to be aware that it may void your warrantee and/or you may fail and either break something or incorrectly reassemble your Mini UZI rendering it "Broked"! This is your problem so please do not attempt this modification (even though it is fairly easy to do) unless you're 100% confident you can do it and are aware of the possible consequences. Make sure to also take into account any gun laws in your area prohibiting full-auto capable firearms!"

(Special thanks to Herman for showing me the ropes on this modification)

This modification will make your semi-auto "only" Cybergun/KWC Mini UZI BB Gun into a full auto capable 4.5mm BB machine gun. From the factory the full auto switch position (Far Left "A") is disabled but the full auto selector position is visible. The actual full-auto functionality is still present in the Mini UZI but has been decommissioned by the simple means of blocking the selector switch from being moved to the far left full-auto or "A" position.

This full auto modification will show you how to disassemble the Cybergun - KWC Mini UZI BB Gun and remove the small plastic selector switch blockage so you will be able to manually switch between semi auto and full auto modes. This modification takes about 15 minutes to complete.

<!-- google_ad_client = "ca-pub-9036472715040282"; /* Replica Airguns Content */ google_ad_slot = "1487049688"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; //-->

You will need the following tools: A pair of pliers and either a pair of small wire cutters or a file.

Let's begin! Below are the two pre-modification positions available from the factory:

"S - SAFE"

"R - SEMI AUTO"

Below is a closeup of the top bolt cover that we will be removing to access the internal bolt for removal:

In the next photo we have removed the bolt cover by pressing the "angled button" towards the rear sight:

And now the bolt is removed:

I removed the grips but this is not necessary:

Now you will need to remove the lower receiver pin located at the back end of the receiver closest to the grip safety. Use a pair of pliers to pinch the metal pin while pushing it through. Once the pin is started you can use the pliers on the other side to pull the pin all the way out. You may need to us a fair amount of force to do this as the fit of the pin is tight:

Once the pin is removed the lower receiver can be detached:

You can see in the picture below the small plastic nub that we will need to remove in order to restore full-auto capability:

I used a pair of small wire cutters to clip this plastic nub off, but you could use a file too. Just make sure that the plastic is flush and does not have any burs or protrusions.

Below is a photo of the Plastic Nub removed from another angle:

After that, all you need to do is reassemble you Mini UZI in revers order to finnish the Full Auto modification.

In the below Photos you can see we have restored the ability to move the fire selector switch over to the "Far Left" or "A" position, reenabling the Cybergun - KWC Mini UZI BB Gun to shoot in full auto when desired.

"A - FULL AUTO"

Now enjoy your Cybergun - KWC Mini UZI BB Gun in full-auto as it was originally designed!
